Usually in a race game I'd use a wheel. But - in my opinion wreckfest is best played with the rear out of cockpit view so you can see cars coming up behind you easily. Using a wheel in this view just doesn't feel right so I use a controller.

this game made me finally switch to controller and it was worth the hassle, gained several seconds and feels much more reactive, not even speaking of techniques which are hard to pull of with keys.. I can imagine using a wheel to be fun, too but the arcade/sim nature of the game might just ruin your well trained sim reflexes ;)

Sorry, keyboard only.
Yes a wheel is very nice, but if you can beat every car or bike game with keyboard?
Wheel is just to be sim a possible, or real a possible.
Key is a just the greatest controller, in means of big.

sadly since spinning out is so common and unavoidable in this game, and its harder to recover from that with a wheel and manual gears + clutch, a gamepad can help you place higher. but if you race clean and dont get spun out, a wheel is much better and you can place in 1st more easily

Play it with a keyboard, it's perfectly fine.

Gamepad is much better.

sux. for me anyway..... but there is a very real possibility that I am just not very good regardless of control device.

Either way a wheel is an incredibly enjoyable and very cool way to play a racing game,

I cant see the same level of fun to be had using a row of keys used for typing.
Wheels will always be best for MOST racing games. I find using a decent analog gamepad works well for this game.

No, its not. Keyboard is not only better than gamepads in 99% of the occasions, its also better in wreckfest. Unless you dont care about responsiveness and lousy lack of control over your vehicles.

KB could have some helpers but if you want real simulation, gamepad is the best.

They have done well in balancing the three main control systems, and people can certainly get results and set the pace with a keyboard.

However, jumping between KB and wheel you can tell there are some heavy assists in place to help the kb players control the vehicles, It become much more alive and detailed with a wheel. The cars would be quite uncontrollable with a KB if the game allowed the direct transfer of inputs, Instead its the most simplistic way to drive.

A wheel is the only way to go.Using a controller does not give any real sense of immersion.I would like to add that i had a lot of trouble using a logitech g27.It was hard to stay in a straight line,so i switched to my old Thrustmaster f430 ferrari wheel. The difference has been amazing.I find it much easier to control and win in most of my races now.The forces are first class as well.

the dial pad on the logitech F310 is not that tactile or responsive, it feels loose, and not very accurate. Keyboard gives me finer control, but hurts my hands so bad. Think I need to try using the analog joystick on the left, if possible. Might be the relief I am looking for.

Are you referring to the max zoom on the X button?
I had to reassign it because I kept hitting it during play/racing. That and the C key.
