Multiplayer lag/loading problem
Grabbed the game recently, looks great and tons of fun, but I have pretty weird issue. Been researching it for a while.

So, what happens: at the start of the race, for ~10 secs or more, I get absolutely brutal lag spike. It looks like other player cars fail to load in time, as my camera keeps swinging all over the place, and I can't move. I also notice that player car count (in upper left corner) slowly increases, so when it goes to full, like 24/24 I can finally race normally. After that, race is rather smooth, with occasional frame drops, which seems to be new update related, as many people seem to suffer from it as well and report. No biggie though, it's like 10-20 FPS dips at most, and rare, probably will get fixed.

Researching this issue I have, seem to point at HDD, which I have this game on. For the record it's 7200 RPM 1TB Seagate. Wreckfest isn't the only game I play, particularly online, and no other game ever gave me issues like that. Overall I'm above recommended specs, Win10, soft up to date. Most surprising thing is, I played with bots for a while, on same tracks, with 24 cars. Game loads incredibly faster than in multiplayer and runs absolutely flawless at high-ultra settings in most brutal carnage you can imagine without a single frame dip, lag or any other issue.

Tried lowering graphics to minimal, with shadows and grass to off, doesn't seem like it makes any difference for my issues with online. Also I don't run any mods, in case it's important.

Is this generally how game supposed to perform? Are specs like 4 times more to run it online? I mean, some players are bound to run this game on HDDs too, but is this really unplayable? Do you absolutely need SSD to play online? I kinda plan to grab it, but if it won't fix the issue, I'm not sure what to do then...

Also, almost forgot to mention, connection is 100 MBPS (up/down) optic fibre cable. Regular ping is 20-50, but as soon as I join, and particularly in menu of online race, it gives pretty crazy spikes. And in general menu is very-very laggy, unlike the race, when everything eventually loads.

Also, funny thing is, sometimes when I join and click spectate, it goes smooth without any initial lagspike, I can just watch race normally, switch cars, etc, no lags, no dips.

What is going on?...

Personally, my game is installed on an SSD and I encounter problems very similar to yours by having a very recent configuration, the game works very well in solo mod but in multi it is very uneven depending on the servers or circuits, and like you I have no problem when I'm in online spectator mod. The game was working fine for me before the last update, I am up to date on all my software.

Same problem here since the last update.

I get the same lag spike whenever the track changes. It goes away / finishes loading everything after like 30 seconds of getting into the lobby after the track changes. If there is a 60 second wait time before the start of the next race then I can start the race off without the lag spike.

I also noticed that when the next track is loading, it loads to 60% then sends you to the lobby

Same, game works fine in singleplayer but craps out on me in multiplayer with the same exact side effects OP has. However, for me, loading into a server is agonizingly slow and sometimes results in me timing out. Never had this issue before the update released.

So, to get this straight: Is this issue I described generally appeared after latest update, or people had this before and game only really playable on SSD in MP?

Should I wait for hotfix, or SSD will completely solve this problem? Because there are some mixed reports of players, one even said he has similar issues with an SSD...

Strangest thing is that I joined some servers, there are, say, 24 players on each. I can't believe everyones' game is on SSD. But is this problem selective? Like some people with HDDs suffer from it while others don't? Maybe there's some quick fix possible on our end?

I don't have a SSD, only harddisk, and before the update everything was fine.
Now it's lagging because of ping-spikes and the verification takes much longer.

I've been 2 years with the same problem, but not 10 seconds lag spike, it was like 30-40s of extreme lag/stutter where I cant control my car and goes from right to left hitting everything in his way.
The solution: Uninstall ur game from the HHD and instal it at the SSD, believe me it will solve the problem, and u lose nothing trying it, good luck :)

Hotfix arrived. Did anyone seen any improvement? If yes, please report! All issues I had are still present, though. Maybe something is broken in my game... It's so heartbreaking, racing feels incredibly fun, especially in multiplayer, which is totally unplayable for me. The only positive is that I can now disable bloom and save my eyes from melting out, lol.

Yeah, well, I lose nothing other than money for an SSD that I don't really need for anything other than this game... And there's no guarantee it will help me. I'm still not sure what exactly is the problem with my game.

I still get slow verifications and lengthy loading times with no guarantee of actually entering a server without timing out... camera and lobbies are still wonky to the point of being unplayable.

I have a very similar issue to this. It's only sometimes that it happens. The entire race stutters for a solid 30-40 seconds, so it's even longer for me. The camera gets ahead of my car, I drive through walls, the controls freeze, car moves on its own, etc. It's different each time it happens, but it's usually similar. Eventually it catches up and lets me race normally, but this is incredibly annoying. This has been more of a prevalent problem after this recent hotfix.

Yesterday I had the same problem, today I can't even join. I get the "Failed to respond" error every time.

Verify the game files then restart your machine. Never hurts to try that.
