Is this game any fun with just keyboard controls?
GTA 5 controlling vehicles and motorcycles with keyboard is easy and fun. No real learning curve unless your're talking about an mk2 flying cycle.

I have read that its "ok" once you get use to it but how long does that really take? And is it true. There is NO other controls that I use, mouse and or keyboard since 1983.

Can we win races or are we just turning laps and hope the entire fields DNF :) to win.

Thanks in advance.

I often become first or in top 3 in online servers too, i will only be overtaken by the people that play a LOT or people that have a controller with manual gearing, since using clutch manually can make you significantly faster.

Your way of steering slightly is just tapping the A or D key really fast, it becomes natural quite easily.

There a few KB players that race online and some of them are fast. Racing against AI, there 3 levels you can set them too. At Expert, you going run into an AI or 2 that fast on the track and be tough to beat.

There are assists you may need use with KB. Using no assists, is a challenge keep car under control, keep rearend from coming around on you if spin the tires.

Hopefully a KB player will post. I use a G29 wheel, so can't help.

I played using a KB/Mouse for quite a long time, and was able to remain competitive. What worked the best for me was binding most of the controls to my mouse (gas, brake, e break, upshift, downshift) only used the KB for turning really

I play all my games with just a keyboard and mouse as it is supposed to (ore maybe I’m just oldscool). With Wreckfest it works just fine.

It's fine with KB. I used to use a wheel/pedal setup, which way back when was optimal... but in the current version seems to be nerfed somehow, and I get better times with KB than the steering wheel.
The game uses cursor keys for control, but you can rebind them to WASD if you prefer. That said, I use cursors and Auto transmission, and can still change gear up/down using A & Z when I want to as doing this manually is often better than the auto.

TL:DR You'll be absolutely AOK with just KB.

I play Keyboard without assists after wearing out my controller and love it.

Keyboard here.

No stability control, no traction control, full ABS so braking wheels don't lock. Simple as salt.

Keyboard, no assists and manual trans with clutch. Not the most elegant way to drive, but it works fine and I can still win online races on a semi-regular basis. It's all in the tune and amount of practice you have.

Its fine, I use a bog standard dell keyboard because my Corsair one died and its fine.

Yes I bought game and the keyboard mouse is just fine. Put gas and break on mouse steer left and right with A & D. Against A.I. Once I get A LOT better at the game "knowing the tracks" then I will go against other players online

Thanks again to all the responses.

I personally prefer just using WASD since you can brake/look behind but i guess you can do so with right hand on the mouse too.

You might have the advantage of binding mouse movements to looking around if you learn it your way though.
