At the end of the day it is still a game after all so to add a bit more fun and diversity to the game when it comes to racing on a track, why not have a race mode where you can respawn if you get wrecked, or at least make it an optional thing you can toggle for the banger race mode. Much like when you reset your car, when you respawn you'd have the same idea.
i suspect the logic in the current game balance is quite simple (and effective)...those causing the most trouble are also usually the one who sit out the MOST. Sure every race will see a few innocent victims too..but mostly those side lined EARNED the "time out".....lol
But code wise, it be tricky to do for Bugbear. When you DNF in a 20 lap races, where does game put you lap wise? Does game remember what lap you are on and restart you at the finish line or, if you are DNF, you lose all laps completed and have to start over?
"wreckers" would not have a problem with that, but players leading the race at lap 18, get DNF and now start at lap 1!
For this mode to work, I think game needs be able to keep take of your laps and when you DNF and get put back at the start line, game remembers what the last lap you were on.
From a completely non-competitive view, perhaps force it so you have to wait a couple of seconds or so before you can actually respawn (timer keeps ticking, lap is kept), just like how you can set the reset timer and you'd be put back to near where you wrecked on the same lap. I think the loss of a few seconds puts you away from the pack out of the way if you are a 'wrecker', but also still gives you a fighting chance if you did just accidentally wreck to catch up at least and still get to enjoy the race instead of having a 'timeout' for something that was an accidental crash.
I'm more leaning towards the view of what Raceclimb mentioned, that a mode like this wouldn't be really considered for more than just a group of friends wanting to goof around in a normal race. Everyone has their own playstyle in said groups, some crash more than others because they aren't as good at racing games, others like to do the crashing, etc.
Perhaps another race respawn mode could be implemented on top that has a more competitive vibe to it for the more hardcore racers but also want a bit more of a chance if they do get wrecked by a 'wrecker'.
if u can't drive and u get wrecked, than u did something wrong and not the game which don't want to let u respawn.. ^^
Not everyone that plays racing games titled like 'Wreckfest' are hardcore racers that MUST complete a race in order to have fun... this game isn't a racing simulator, far from it. Some find the accidental crashes enjoyable, some find it fun to see how much chaos they can cause by crashing into the other cars.
For normal racing, keep the lap numbers relatively few, and down time is less for early wreck-outs, more races means more chances to win, and you can visit more different tracks.
the whole mechanic and the whole name of the game will be obsolete in the moment a wreck end up in a simple respawn..
just makes no sense to like wrecking others while the wrecked guys just respawn like nothing was ^^
thats why just last man standing mode makes sense and not the demolition mode.. ^^
It would be perfect for the no rules servers that are played like death matches anyway.
