Fatal Error: Couldn't open file for writing

This error appeared only after the latest patch and nothing seems to help at all. Tried every possible solution on steam community. So should we expect a hotfix or there's something we can do?

It looks like this is a different case and just deleting settings.conf _may_ not help. There are discussion on BB's Discord and they are looking up what causes this. No ETA yet.

i dont have any saves, this is my first try with WreckFest, so i dont have any files in both of these directories:
1)
C:\Program Files (x86)Steam\userdata\[YOUR UNIQUE USER ID]\228380\local\wreckfest
2)
C:\Users\NAME\My documents\My Games\
if someone can help, pls

For me it seems that the problem happens to users that have Steam in the Program Files Folder installed. That Folder is protected by Windows and can prevent writing or changing of Files inside.

if yo username has special symbols. So, just change the username and the problem is fixed.

Totally erased my pc profile, yet fixed Wreckfest
Thanks a lot and yeah, now I've got one less reason not to reisntall Windows

Janne said in WF Discord they will try and fix bug with special language characters stopping game from finding or making the new save folder. Will have wait until next hotfix to get release.

I only have english alphabet characters in my name. I checked the folder you mentioned, and I guess the problem is that there is simply no save folder.

My settings.conf is in

C:\Users\NAME\My documents\My Games\wreckfest\LONGNUMBER\settings.conf

yet the game is trying to write to save/settings.conf which does not exist.

If NAME of C: \ Users \ NAME is other than alphabet, it seems that it cannot be read. (In my case, I could not read because it was in Japanese)

my solution: open "property" of this game on steam; open "local files" tab and then click "browse local files". Right click on the 2 game exe files, property -> compatibility, check "run as administrator"
*edit: doesn't work when I try to enter the game again...
