Fatal error after latest patch

Fatal error: Could not open file for writing: save/settings.conf

"Added support for Steam Cloud. Note that the game's save data is now located in "Documents/My Games/wreckfest" (old save data will be copied over in the first-time launch)."

Well I think that didn't work... Can I do it manually, and how? I really don't want to uninstall and install again and lose my save AGAIN.

same problem here, renaming the file did not worked for me so I do not know how to lauch this game..

My game doesn't even do new folder to Documents/My Games/. There is no Wreckfest folder at all.

The solution (worked for me - hope it does for anyone else who has this issue).

First Exit Game

(1). Go to the following directory:

\Steam\userdata\37951****\228380\local\wreckfest

(2). Go to the last "Backup" directory by last date it was modified.

(3). Copy all the files in that backup directory.

modlist.mods
playerinventory2.usli
records.ercs
settings.conf
settings.sets

(4). Go to the following directory:

C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\My Games\wreckfest\76561198339776269

(5). *** BACKUP THIS DIRECTORY JUST IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG ***

(6). Now paste the files you copied from the Steam Userdata

(7). Relaunch Game.


PS: On a side note, the new 2 new tracks are really nice (thanks Bugbear).

Is the settings.conf file in this new folder: C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\My Games\wreckfest\76561198339776269 ? If so delete that one and the one here: \Steam\userdata\379510541\228380\local\wreckfest See if that works.

Same here. I press Play button in Steam, the window - ""Wreckfest 1.252065 64bit DX11"" with the game settings pops up, in this window I click Play and pops up fatal error: ""Could not open file for writing: save/settings.conf""

Maybe do a test, make a backup copy of the \Steam\userdata\379510541\228380\local\wreckfest folder. Then rename the \wreckfest folder to something like \wreckfest-test. See if Wreckfest will start now.

Tried everything, even reinstalling and moving save files away from userdata folder — nothing works

same problem for me.

I fixed this bug by this way :

1. open steam, check your profile at the top right.
2. note your Steam ID at the bar address (the number at the end of the address, sounding like 76561198037******)
3. copy "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\MYID\228380\local\wreckfest" to "Documents\My Games\wreckfest\76561198037******"
4. it works now!

Same error here, tried uninstalling / reinstalling, deleting folder, verifying files etc etc. I cannot get the game to run again. Same error. (If it means anything to the devs I am using two harddrives with steam installed on both, IDK if that would impact the issue, but it seems to be after this update.)
