listen very carefully to Purp !
he's helped many players (including myself) solve this one
but I would also suggest ... I think 'fatal disk error' is actually being raised by windows, and is bubbling up through the application (wreckfest) that is trying to read or write data.
I'd start with opening windows explorer, finding the drive you have steam (wreckfest) installed on, right-click it and go to properties .. click Tools tab, and click the 'Check'button ... let windows check it out first, and fix any issues it might find (if it says it found issues, but could not fix them, you may have to reboot in safe mode and try again).
not saying this is right, just saying what I would do first given 'fatal disk error' ... that sounds to me like an OS level exception being raised, and bubbling up through the app ... not an app issue.
Hope you find a fix.
Respect.

I have gotten this error a few times over last couple years modding new custom tracks and do something wrong!
