XBox One controller on Ubuntu Linux
Hey guys. Having trouble getting Wreckfest to recognize my XBox one controller on my Ubuntu box. It is perfectly recognized by Steam itself and I can use it in Steam Big Picture mode. However no matter what controller config I use, it won't work in game. Also the game only recognizes the keyboard as a controller. I can the keys on the keyboard to the different buttons of the controller but that doesn't make use of the fine controls of the controller obviously.

I've tried looking on this forum for a solution but haven't been able to find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can play on Ubuntu?? Why am I wasting my FPS on windoze then!!

I'm looking forward to try this with other PC (which I left in the work currently), though I only have XBox 360 Controller...

Indeed, would love to hear about your Ubuntu configuration. Please share.

It's actually not that difficult (assuming you have an Nvidia graphics card, i don't have any experience with AMD). Upon installing Ubuntu on your machine, make sure proprietary drivers are installed. (the installer asks you for it). When install is finished, install Steam and follow the instructions on:

https://itsfoss.com/steam-play/

Steam basically installs a modified version of WINE with any windows game so you can play em on Linux. Mind you it's not perfect and might need some fine tuning before it works (hence my question on xbox contollers ;-)). Here's a good website to see if your games will work and what you need to do to make it run optimally:

So you are using Linux native Steam app I guess? I'm thinking about installing Steam in Wine if that could make any difference.

Edit: Ok, I did RTFM, downloading Wreckfest now, 35min remaining.

I finally got the game to run and I can say the XBox 360 USB controller works out of the box (and XBox One controller is reported to be working as well https://www.protondb.com/app/228380).

OT: What does not work well is integrated Intel graphics driver. Using https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Requirements I was able to load the game at least, but FPS is terrible even in menu and car models are broken. I will have to dig deeper into that.

Anyways, Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 LTS, Steam Play with Proton 4.11-8 (or 4.2-9)

If you enter -setup in the startup options of the game you should be able to select your graphics card. Provided you have the proprietary Nvidia drivers installed. I do have the XBox One controller flawlessly in Steam but Wreckfest won't recognize it. Only the keyboard.

only a hint, i have the "problem" under windows, that wreckfest dont use and/or see the gamepad, when you not have activate the gamepad (do it on) BEFORE you start wreckfest.

Good tip Captain, that helps on my windows laptop - I had to adjust nVidia control panel for the dedicated graphics chip to show up in that list.

The other PC I tried with Ubuntu only has integrated Intel graphics (4th gen) and available drivers are not really usefull for gaming. The nVidia currently seems to be safest option for linux gaming, though AMD should work too or newer intel graphics supported by Vulcan.

Still, I realised that I can use Ubuntu for daily dose of internets on that box with no problem, so I can finally scrap my old overclocked W7 machine.

Unfortunately that does not help your controller problem at all I guees. As I have written earlier, the game is unplayable on that box, but 360 controller works, so if you would like me check some config or drivers used, let me know.
