Ability to save replays and view later.
Hey everyone...

I got Wreckfest just recently... and it's just as awesome as I had hoped... BUT, I really wish we could save replays instead of only being able to watch them immediately after a race. It would be great to have a league night with quick fire races one after another, and then go back to watch / capture the replays and make cool highlights videos etc... it seems like a huge missed opportunity for Bugbear to get thousands of videos online promoting the game.

Does anyone know if this feature is being added or in development? Or how we can get the attention of Bugbear staff to have this feature added?

This is beyond what the game engine is capable of handling on a practical level. There is a reason why there is a lap/time limit on what is "recorded". It's why you can't just skip forward or backward at will. Notice how when you watch a "replay" the damage on the cars can be vastly different from what the cars suffered live. Only the location and telemetry are taken into account. If they went full on with this the strain on even the best machines would make the game virtually unplayable. It just can't work with a racing game like this that uses persistent damage.

could I use VLC to capture it?

so when I quit this race the replay is gone forever? WTF?

Sadly yes, if you have Nvidia Experience, you can save replay via regular recording or instant replay, since those are consuming almost next to no resources even when run during the game.

Regarding above comment about engine limitations, if the game is able to play replay instantly after the race, shouldn't it be able to save that data and play it later at user's request.
If car damage differs with every replay any way, then it should make no difference if only telemetry is saved.

I dont know how many racing games you play but MOST of them dont allow you to "save" replays and the replay feature is limited in one way or another. Nothing you can do about it. And yes, saving a replay will consume not only disk space (i dont know any other way a game will save a replay if it isnt in some media format) but will require a lot of efforts to implement in the game code if it isnt designed for that from the beginning.

This would be an amazing feature but it might over exceed the capability of the engine. Overwatch lets you to export but even there it's limited to small POTG moments which are 24 sec videos. A full 3-4 minute race to be rendered and encoded would take a huge amount of resource, not even mentioning the occasional flashy edits you'd make in the replay feature. Maybe sharing it via code or something (again, like in Overwatch)? I can imagine that as a possibility.

I recorded one replay so far. I used Fraps, if your PC can run this game, you could run Fraps, ShadowPlay or OBS and record with that instead.

No idea why not. Such a simple thing to do, unless something in the physics is botched and cant be replicated other than whats already in memory post race?

Very funy to see how people say thing with no logic.
Since the beginning of the 2000's with TOCA Race Driver (and perhaps before), racing games had ability to create a replay with different camera angle ! In Driver you had the ability to choose yourself the position of the camera, the speed of the record, ...

Create a replay require perhaps a lot of effort (really don't know) but what it's sure it's when you have your replay it's not a lot of effort to code something to save it, all the big effort are already done.

We are talking about a destruction racing games, with epic crash ... when you play you are in you don't really have the time to change the view to see how you crash your opponent ... and you're unable to save a replay ? It's a shame, or at least it's very sad.

And I'm fan of this game, I play it everyday but we can be objective and say things like they are. This game is excellent but sufferer of good replay system and statistics for the online part ...

Yes it’s common on sim racing games but I guess it’s the the damage and flying parts, too much memory to hold.
You could record them and store them on your PC but not in game.
I think replays for online would be cool too but it never came.

Then how can they sync over a network?
If that info which I think is mostly predicted can be synced between multiple PCs it can be recorded and replayed in game.

Even BeamDrive.NG can do it, and thats proper physics.

Good point, I guess it should be up to the user how much storage they want to use up on one replay.
I don’t how how it works exactly, wreckfest does have 24 cars on track and you need a super PC to do that on BeamNG, also the replays are capped to a certain amount of laps on wreck fest, I guess the reason would be of similar principle?

Not cap to laps Vin, replay will start over in about 6+ mins. :(

In this video, I recorded my car racing 5 laps on a new custom track ( 9:55 min race ). Then I played replay and followed an AI car and replay quit before AI did 5 laps. :(

Mmm that’s interesting

Ahh yeah I meant to say the game warns you when you select over 10 laps in the race options screen, but really it depends how long the track, so yeah it’s actually about time limit.

That is a real bummer you can't save replays like a time demo.
