Try reducing all your graphics settings in the game to minimal and see if it reaches stability. methodically increase settings. Been running 1080 with all graphic settings to max with no issues.
The fan controller on the fan never seemed to increase fan speed no matter what the temps.
I downloaded and installed EVGA PrecisionX and set a more aggressive fan profile and I no longer get that error.
I never experienced issues like this in other games, but for this one the fan settings sorted it.
(Running windows 10 64Bit)
(Have latest Nvida drivers from clean install)
(Have run graphic card benchmarks but the frustrating part is cannot seem to replicate the freeze) Good suggestion on checking power cables to card, done.Fans are working but I will try running fans at maximum level for Wreckfest as suggested.
Will run game at minimal settings as suggested also.
Cheers again for replies gents.
Running fans MAX and dropping graphics down unfortunately hasn't prevented freeze issue. A dozen races in and the game has frozen.Going to contact microsoft support and see if any tech gurus can pin point the error message.. If I find a solution will post it here.
Did it fail with the same error message (although when I experienced it the texture was different each time).
The only reason I ask is since I got rid of those texture errors I do still experience crash to desktop / freezes every now and again, but much less frequently and without the 'texture' error.
Are you playing online? I only ever experienced the errors during online play.
Could it be CPU heat? Since I changed the fan profile the GPU runs MUCH cooler so the general heat levels inside the case are much lower. But I guess yours would be too with GPU fans on full whack.
Can you increase ventilation inside the case? Just take the sides / front off for a test?
I don't ever remember it happening on my old 4790k but I upgraded to a (can't quite remember, newer i7 Intel CPU) and that seemed to coincide with the errors starting. I have an NZXT water cooled heatsink which was on both the old CPU and new one.
(Have experienced the freeze both in single and multi play).
It's possible the freezes could be heat related Santa's Boyfriend.I'm going to boot the game up now and have a look at CPU temps as I have only been checking GPU temps thus far.(The card has been running around 60 degrees in game which is good).
I have noticed that the guys on youtube who can post hour + long sessions run in 1080p and phoink's comment that he's running in 1080p with ultra settings made me try 1080p - down from 1440p.
Played a few hours ,left PC on,been alt tabbing etc and thus far,no freeze. It's possible that 1440p generates more heat( or something else) causing the freeze.
Sorry to hear that you still get the odd freeze, especially since upgrading your CPU but glad you managed to make them less frequent through improved cooling.
As a side note, I use a Samsung QLED TV as my monitor and it is possible that even though it supports 1440p @ 120Hz that maybe it has an issue with Wreckfest in that rez.even though other games run fine at 1440p.
Cheers once again for the feedback!
Will post an update after a few more hours play to see if 1080p has done the trick.
Hey guys, just a clarification.... Running ROG Strix GTX1080 @ 2560 x 1080 144Hz with all graphics settings to max.
# UPDATE #
Have checked CPU temps and GPU temps while running Wreckfest and both are around 50-60 degrees which removes heat from the equation.
1080P hasn't prevented the freeze issue neither although it has reduced the frequency of crashes.
At a complete loss as to what the issue is.Microsoft support did say that their are a lot of people with issues with Wreckfest but again, I don't know if it's the software,my graphics card or something else.
C:\Program Files (x86)Steam\userdata\[YOUR UNIQUE USER ID]\228380\local\wreckfest or where ever Steam is installed.
Suggest you rename the \wreckfest folder to something like \wreckfest-test. This will force WF to make new save files and should popup the setup window when start Wreckfest. I would leave all the settings as is in the setup window, for now. Then go test Wreckfest.
When I was getting those errors I did this and it had absolutely no effect (for me anyway) I'm afraid.
I was just playing Gears of War 4 horde mode and about an hour in and 27 waves deep the game froze up exactly like it does in Wreckfest.
Just like in Wreckfest I can hear the game still playing but the screen is frozen and I have to quit the application.
Thanks again to ya'll for your input and again I'd like to make clear this issue hasn't been Wreckfest.
Re : Memory sticks and compatibility. Anthem didn't play nicely with 8GB and had freeze issues also so I upgraded to 16 GB a couple of months ago (yes,2 x 8 GB sticks in dual channel) running default detected speeds in BIOS.XMP1 and at 2400mhz - the rams rated speed. I have done memtest check on RAM and it has passed.
I have had the same freeze on my old Ram -supported by the motherboard as I have with the new ram which made me think it's not the ram.(Doesn't mean it isn't the ram of course, just how my brain is viewing things lol)
I will swap the memory over tomorrow and try the other dual channel slots and try that.Maybe their is a faulty dual channel slot.
I appreciate your input phoink - cheers again.
Is MB bios latest version? That too can solve some issues with memory compatibility and timing. vid card seems solid. you checked PS connections, have you re-seated main power connections to MB? Work back to the processor and heat sink, (2 sets of memory - same issue) cannot hurt to pop the processor and re-seat. apply fresh heat sink compound, use arctic silver or other premium goop. I've seen dried up and "worn out" HSC on gaming systems only a couple years old. The heat and cool cycling tends to push the stuff out over time.
Just out of curiosity phoink,on systems you have seen the HSC dried up and spoiled the CPU temps would have reflected this right? (My CPU temps are pretty good with all cores 30-35 idle and gaming up to around 70-75.)
