are you drunk and high, or just high?
Anyone who doesn't like the way it is now, I don't blame—it had a drastic change. But what can I say, I and several other people still win or at least podium with it frequently, even in competitive servers. It's not the easy mode vehicle anymore *cough*rammer*cough* but it's not unusable either. Make the suspension stiff as it goes and treat it like an actual 80s SUV, taking corners with finesse.
Disclaimer: I run it completely stripped, perhaps the lower weight has a stronger effect on this vehicle post-update.
Digger was purpose-built for ramming. That was the whole point... Now you are more likely to flip yourself than flip the tiny car you are going full throttle into the side of. Stiff suspension doesnt help nearly enough, and a fully armored digger acts like it weighs 50lbs any time you hit someone. Its one of the worst vehicles now.
Sure you can place first, if all the real racers dnf or just suck. That doesnt make it a competitive racer.
I get it's not fun when your favorite vehicle/weapon/strategy in any game gets nerfed so I'm sympathetic to anyone who doesn't like it now, it's certainly not good for aggressive driving anymore. But saying you can't be competitive in it unless people suck or get wrecked isn't right either. Sure it's just one example but you can't tell me that everyone still alive in this race (Northland outer route, not some throwaway oval or figure 8) isn't a real racer.

You win one race with a digger, where you arent even close to the best lap time, and declare it a competitive vehicle? Take that thing to some league races and see how far you get.
I have won a thousand races with a fully armored digger against those same people, but it was either because they got into a war with someone or they seriously messed up a few times. I would never use a digger if I was actually trying to win. Any skilled driver will beat his best digger lap time using just about any other car. Now add to that the fact its no longer a good wrecker because of all the recent changes. It is complete garbage. As you pointed out, everyone has switched to limo for wrecking now.
Nobody would use a digger in an officiated race anyway, pre-patch or otherwise; it was never "competitive" in that sense, but obviously in racing games everyone has different ideas of what the word means. To ME it means "can I be consistently effective with this vehicle on a real track in a full server of experienced players?" With some cars like the Nexus or Wingman, the answer for me is no. But the Muddigger is a yes.
We agree for the most part anyway—the digger is not a good choice for wrecking anymore (which WAS its original purpose), tips over very easily, and requires a masochistic driver post-August-2019. I'm sorry if it was your favorite vehicle, I'd be pretty upset too if the Firefly, Gremlin or Hammerhead was hit with such a drastic change.
I like to play Wreckfest online in a 'see which way the cards fall' kind of way. If I end up towards the front after a few corners, surrounded by people who want to race clean, then I'll race clean.
If I end up anywhere else surrounded by wreckers then I'll give some back.
And I hang onto a grudge like a baby hangs on to a toy.
The digga was perfect for that previously. It could race and it could wreck. I always did think there was something a bit wrong. It seemed to have too much advantage. I didn't even consider driving another car.
Since the update I've really enjoyed driving other cars and finding different ways to play the game. Working out weight, handling etc.
I don't get on with the digga any more but I don't care. There are PLENTY of alternatives and, for me, no longer one unfairly advantageous car, which I think the previous digga probably was.
But a freak accident still makes it possible.
