Using the third start option " disable mods " and then go online. You still see all red Xs in server list?

I tried that Purple, first. Then added -disable_mods to launch options, neither worked.I tried renaming mods file that didn't work either.Still seeing all red x's for every server.Gonna un-sub all mods next......

Chances are you have additional files in the game's installation folder, elsewhere than in the mods folder that is. To fix that try using the command prompt to navigate to the game's installation folder and then running:

datacleaner.exe -delete

Please be aware that this will remove any custom files from the game's installation data. It will, however, not touch the files in the mods folder.

I done that with my stock game while I was modding it. Made a copy of a file and forgot about it! That trigger red Xs online.

Janne, any chance I catch you online with Steam Thursday morning, Finland time?

Yes, that happens to everyone (yours truly included...).

I am using reshade too.I'll delete that first before I try the cmd datacleaner and report back.
jannesBB  [developer] Sep 18, 2019 @ 8:38am
No need to, it's safe to use even online.
Quick☢420™ Sep 18, 2019 @ 8:51am
Ok I removed reshade and did the command datacleaner.exe -delete.Still no love ,,,,,all red x's in the server browser.

Hmm and you have no mods enabled? That sounds odd. Did the game verify game data when entering the server browser? If not, please try going into a single player race and then go back. If still no luck I assume the quickest solution is to manually delete the whole installation folder of the game and reinstall.

I got it working.I let steam verify files and it re-aquired 3 files.I don't know which files or why they were not there or corrupt.Thank You for the help and ideas guys, tonights gonna be a banger race night round these parts!

I'm having this same issue. I've never used mods, tried the most popular suggested fixes, still getting the error.

I'm trying to avoid completely deleting the installation and reinstalling since I live in a rural area with crappy internet.

Any more suggestions?

Some of the things I've tried include:
  • Verifying installation
  • Disabling mods, running the game with disable mods parameter, deleting files like "modlist.mods"
  • Datacleaner fix suggested above - When I tried, it failed, and I noticed there's no datacleaner executable in my install folder (just datacleaner log files)

Some more info:
I had previously moved the installation to my SSD using the program SteamMover, I undid that to troubleshoot. So everything is in the standard installation location.

Hmm, give this a try:

Here one other thing to try, Go here to Wreckfest save folder:

\Steam\userdata\379510541\228380\local\wreckfest

And delete the modlist file there. Game make a new one when you start Wreckfest.

Doing this, definitely make your Wreckfest stock. And maybe verify your WF files just to make sure.

Thanks for the fast reply, Purple. That didn't work for me, but I got it working now. I assume the issue might be related to the fact I haven't played or updated in ages before this.

I saw there were some people that had the same issue as me (game acting like you have mods activated despite never using mods), and they fixed it by MANUALLY deleting everything and then reinstalling, or just reinstalling the game to a different folder.

Since I didn't want to completely re-download it, I found a workaround to avoid that.

It seems there's some files that aren't recognized by Steam, so it does nothing to them when you verify, doesn't delete them when you uninstall, and at least one of those files isn't recognized by Wreckfest and causes the issue where it acts like you have mods.

Here are the steps to fix that without redownloading:

  • Create a copy the Wreckfest installation folder (...steamapps\common\Wreckfest) to back it up.
  • Use steam to uninstall the game.
  • Take a look at the files that are left behind after uninstall (for me, it was like 4 or 5 seemingly random files that I would've sworn were normal parts of the installation. Some were in the data>scene and property folder, including track and texture files. I can't be sure what was the one causing an issue.)
  • Take note of those files and then delete those same files from your backup version.
  • Use your now cleansed backup folder to replace the installation folder.
  • Tell Steam to install Wreckfest, and it will discover that you already have everything you need.

Thanks for your post Wimbush. Will make sure Janne see it.

Seem the datacleaner.exe file got drop, is not in Wrfeckfest folder now. So Janne posted a download link in WF discord:

Hopefully the next Wreckfest update will see a return of the datacleaner.exe file. Running the datacleaner fix the Client version or data does not match, for Pat yesterday.
