# Setup server for local area network play only
# 0 = use Steam, 1 = without Steam (should probably be 1 for hamachi)
lan=0
The entire point of hamachi is to avoid the whole port forwarding thing, I can't port forward. If hamachi works there should be no need to port forward, it has worked everywhere else port forwarding has been required in the past. Based on the couple hours I tried to get this working, I'm just going to assume LAN emulation straight up doesn't work in this game, which is a massive disappointment. Hopefully someone comes along and proves me wrong.
But there are good tools out there to easily port forward, as well as the port is listed in stickies in this forum. Just ask if stuck and we'll see if we can help :)
I meant to say the reason I use hamachi to avoid port forwarding for dedicated servers. I've hosted quite a few dedicated servers where port forwarding was "required" and hamachi nullified it; Minecraft, Unturned, Wurm, Gmod i think, and a couple others I can't think of off the top of my head. Easily avoided when dedicated servers let you set the server IP, which is replaced with the hamachi created IP. That's apparently not an option here.
I, unfortunately, still live with my parents and my dad works in the tech/security field. He's hyper paranoid about this stuff and will not let me touch router settings, and definitely won't let me port forward. I've tried. It's out of my control. I'm also the only person in my group that is either tech savvy enough or is up for dealing with server hosting.
I don't understand why games with this budget don't implement a P2P connection system for private/custom games or, even simpler, a direct connect option for people wanting to use LAN emulation. This game is great on public servers but sometimes myself and friends just want to ♥♥♥♥ around together without the restrictions and requirements of public servers.
I honestly regret buying this game for my friends, I would have completely avoided any attempt at multiplayer if I was smart enough to look into it first. I've owned the game since EA release and I just always assumed the in game server creation would have worked through Steam or work at all without port forwarding, which was a mistake. Not everyone is up for the challenge, effort, or even has the ability to go through the standard dedicated server creation process.
