Leaving game idle almost melted my pc (Warning)
My son plays this game a bit, the other day he left it running and walked away but when i came to check it my pc was running off its♥♥♥♥♥♥just sitting at the main menu. The heat comin off my rig really worried me, im not certain if it caused any damage but this is the first time ive seen something like this. Just to confirm i double checked the equipment, fans/cooler etc, everything working fine so nothing stopped working which may have lead to the overheating, for whatever reason this game decided to use every bit of power i had to stay afloat and basically turned the room into an oven.

The system can/should handle anything thrown at it, made specifically for that reason, i have no idea why the game caused this to happen, memory leak or what not, im afraid ill have to uninstall simply for piece of mind. Has anyone ever encountered this issue?

Specs:
i7 6800
gigabyte X99 series mother/B
16Gig RAM
280mm ID liquid cpu cooler
gtx 1080ti extreme
750W psu
480 gig ssd
win 10 home

EDIT: Discovered motherboard failure, returning to manufacturer, just happen to occur during this game. Its cpu cooling and the radiator fans had stopped completley, found they'd only initiate if i gave them a push start. Youd think these days, and for the amount of money one had to cough up, that tech would actually meet standards and have reasonable life expectancies but no, that would be too convenient :/, sorry if this thread alarmed anyone, devs included (even if you guys are really REALLY dragging this one the ♥♥♥♥ out)

In doing my track modding, I have had Wreckfest and Stuntfest both on for many hours. And I have forgotten that Wreckfest was stilling running and left running for maybe half a day. Have not seen any signs of over heating. But I have 6 120x120 case fans to keep my i5 2500 and 960 video card cool and quiet.

Also have race online for 4-6 hours straight.

But that would not be like have a race going for 6 hours.

I had a PC burn out the grphics card once leaving the sim3 running at the pause menu.
I am always carful after that. Petty much alwasy use Vsync now too,
This maybe one of those games that gets exremely high frame rate in menus with no vsync

Most modern PC games will do this if you have the frame rate uncapped or if the capped frame rate is already pushing your PC to, or near to, its limits. Just common sense really.

Use Vsync as suggested, or a frame rate limiter.
AMD drivers for example have a setting called "Frame rate target control"
You might use that to prevent the same issue in other games.

If all else fails, set your fan speeds manually.

I am curious if it was the CPU or the GPU that was overheating.
I liquid cool my CPU and my GPU runs the fans full up when the temp exceeds 65 degrees celsius. Of course there are case fans also.
I have never had an overheat problem with this game

If your PC is overheating then that's probably because there is something wrong from your end and that has nothing to do with the game itself.

Stress test your PC, install MSI Afterburner and monitor your temps while stress testing, see which component is running hot and fix it.
