I play everything except online FPS MP and strategy games on a controller and usually I can't complain about controls, there are a couple of reasons why this one could feel 10 times better on a controller, the first being it 3rd person, the second one being it mostly a brawler.
I think you wont be disappointed.
Aside the fact it has little to no room for exploration and the camera often is limited in movements and makes it feel weird, aside the combos handling being initially somehow tricky to learn, people would have screamed "masterpiece", I think.
I usually play FPS stuff like the Deus Ex and Half-Life series. I also like 3rd person stuff too like Dead Space or Tomb Raider. When I move my mouse, I expect my screen to move with my every mouse movement without feeling like I have to move my mouse more than a couple of inches to point in the direction I want to go or look. It's just what I've grown accustomed to. If it's done right like in Dead Space, I like how smooth the mouse movements feel. In Dead Space, the mouse movement is slow, but it feels very consistent, smooth, and natural.
I'll explain it the best I can. In Remember me, it feels like the mouse movement has 2 uncontrollable speed settings. When I start to move my mouse from rest, the screen slowly starts to move and it almost gets locked at a sluggish speed. This happens for maybe a second, not long. Then, the screen starts to move at a higher speed abruptly and I overcorrect the camera. The transition between the two speeds looks very smooth, but it feels clunky and frustrating.
I'll try a controller the next time I feel like playing it. I am really interested in the story so far.
When I do fight them, however, it seems to be impossible to choose which one to attack. She'll pick one and stay with it, till it's dead. No matter what direction I press, no matter where I point the camera, no matter if she's repeatedly being pummeled by all the other enemies, she just won't attack anyone else other than the one she's chosen when throwing the first punch. Still, it's not too hard, as dodging works fine, even though it breaks the combos. But they're useless and contrived anyway. It feels more like a chore to chain them together (added by the fact that the interface is clumsy and sucks ass) and using them feels forced, not like I'm glad to get some new moves and wanting to use them - more like "mnooooohooohoo.... more crap!"
It's incredible - I really wanted this game the first moment I read about it. I was totally jazzed and really excited. But right out of the gate they did everything wrong that can possibly be done wrong with how a game should "behave".
In such a case, graphics might be the game's saving grace. But the hideously foggy low-res textures make it painful to look at the blurry mess on screen, especially since one can see that there is some spectacular art direction buried under lo-fi and technically dated gfx. They even mangaged, from a technical standpoint, to cover up the great art with their clumsy incompetence.
What a joke.
P.S.: Not to mention screen tearing during cutscenes, even if vsync is turned on. And to add insult to injury, the cutscenes are unskippable. Come on...
I liked the game at first...great atmosphere. But the linearity, constant fights, and odd control just about kill it for me. I'm on chapter 4 and I'm starting to feel like I really don't want to continue.
Since they basically have the Batman freeflow combo system, I think they should've just left it at that and skipped the whole configuration lab. It's not intuitive and pointless imo.
The forced camera views and linearity sadly remind me of one of the worst games I ever played...Garhasp. Fix the camera and I'll retract that statement ;)
ive played all the batman games and while they are great they feel like button mashing fests if you play them that way. yes you can be thoughtfull and fight with strategy but its totally possible to button mash at anytime and succeed. while inthis game remember me you cannot just button mash blindy, you have to remember the combos you make and change them often to take advantage of the games potential. if you just mash X you will die quick esp the further you get into the game. i liked the idea of being able to heal with certain successful strikes and combos. it made me look forward to unlocking longer combos and strikes. its also the only way to beat certain enemies later in the game that mirror the damage you give to them back at you. if you dont use enough heal strikes you kill yourself.
