New Steam Version only Tales of Valor?
Alright, so I've never actually played this game before, but I want to now. Anyway I downloaded the New Steam version and when I get to the main menu screen it says "Tales of Valor." I thought I was downloading the original game? If the new version is all three games rolled into one, how come the New Steam Version is only ~9GB in size?

Because the additions aren't that big.

That doesn't make any sense. The original game when I go to DL it is like 11gigs, and then each expansion is about 10gigs. They must have used serious witchcraft to combine 30GB of games into 9GB.

Well, the only thing I can think of is that individually each game has to install all 9 gigs of data, because you can play play them individually. With this Steamworks version, it is giving you the standard game, OF, and TOV regardless of if you purchased all of them or not. So it only needs the base game data once which plus each of the addons. You understand what I'm saying. It's kinda hard to explain, I can reclarify if you want.

Example:
Base Game 10 Gigs
Opposing Fronts 11 Gigs the extra gig is the Add on stuff.
Same thing with Tales of Valor.

Despite having their own entries in the Steam library, the add-ons Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor were installed into the same folder as the base game, \steamapps\common\company of heroes. This didn't change much, except the add-ons are now treated as "real" DLC -- see the DLC tab in the new version's properties.

The game has always been about 9 GB big, with each add-on weighing in at an extra GB or so. So, there's no difference content-wise.

^ Okay, but then how come when I start the game it defaults to ToV? Shouldn't it be the default game?

Because there's only one installer now? The gamefront is for the latest expansion you have. If you just had COH and Opposing fronts it would show you opposing fronts. Other than that it's the same game, it simply locks out any content you don't have access to (if you wouldn't have had Opposing fronts for instance you wouldn't be able to play those associated campaigns)

Afaik the game includes ALL the content, whether or not you purchased the expansion it was from. That's because you might be playing online vs someone who has extra vehicles etc. that you haven't purchases yet yourself.

For example, I just activated Opposing Fronts with the Steam version. No new files were downloaded, OF was just "unlocked" in the game is all.

Yes, they share the majority of the files if you already have one. Delete all three, install COH, then install one/both of the expansions and watch what it does, it immediately jumps up to 90% or whatever because it already has most of the content downloaded.

Think of it more like how an MMORG installation works- you're downloading the client which has all 3 games but you can only access those parts which you own. (not an exact match but closer than how other games work).

I think this is a better way of doing it than having 3 seperate installs. Anyway you can own any combination of CoH/OP/ToV and it'll still look the same, it just restricts what you actually have access to when you log into it (which made more sense when you actually did log into relic).

I got the game through the humble bundle so I had all three games, but when I start it up, it says I'm playing Tales of Valor. All I want to do is play the single player campaigns in the proper order. I really don't give a damn about multi-player (yet anyway).

Havik, don't be stupid. Just start playing all the campaigns from top to the bottom.

all the tales of valor and opposing fronts did was add extra maps and new units like the british to the original company of heroes

One point that bears repeating is that the menus shuffle around, meaning on one launch you could have a ToV menu, another vanilla CoH, etc etc, provided the maps are there, the expansions are installed.

Basically its all the same client/program you're running.

That makes sense now. I just bought the game on sale and was wondering why it shows TOV when I launched COH. Then when I launched it again it was only COH. So basically it's the same game with unlocked addons (OF and TOV).
