I've been using this software on and off, and it's honestly not that good.
The new and updated EULA was just the last straw.

The only pro that this piece of software (which you don't actually own upon purchase) is that it's easy to use.
You're better off with OBS. If OBS is too complicated for you, watch a video tutorial.

I will recommend another completely free alternative software here, it is called "OBS Studio", which can be directly searched on steam, stable and easy to use, and most importantly, it does not need to be paid, which is much better than this software

I am very angry!

The only good thing about this program is that you can control recording from your phone. Unfortunately, over the past few years, the program has gotten worse, with no progress or fixes for old problems.

1. It doesn't support setting a custom screen refresh rate (my monitor is 75 Hz, and I had to switch to 60 Hz for recording, or else there was a 15-frame drop every second, making the recording look choppy).
   
2. It has issues with modern codecs.
   
3. There's no way to fine-tune encoding settings to get good quality with a small file size.
   
4. The built-in player is annoying and useless because it can't play videos made with modern codecs.
   
5. The interface is poorly designed.
   
6. The developers promised to release version 5 with significant improvements but never delivered.

There's no reason to buy Action now. It's better to switch to the free OBS and get many more features for free.

The program has been unable to run since the last update, and your behavior has been very troubling me. Why are there always so many problems?

Tried this out for the first time. Not only did it not let me select my New 2DS XL as a device(it has a capture card modded into it), but when I try to select the application, being the program that shows the feed on my computer, for window capture, the program just goes dark and I can't do anything with it. I tried selecting the window itself on my Desktop, but nothing was working until I closed it and restarted it.

And then I tried again.

And it still didn't work.

Garbage app and, going by some reviews I've seen, it's made by garbage people.

Once upon a time this was a very solid way to cap vids in Windows. Way more versatile and option laden than the built in screen cap tools you might get from nVidia or AMD, but more efficient than OBS.

Over the last two years of updates ('22-'24) the app has progressively become more and more unstable. And there are multiple times where you will wish it did crash to desktop, instead of the occasional horrific memory leakage problems it has that will literally freeze your system's ability to process anything... you can move your mouse, but you can't select anything, you can't bring up the Task Manager to kill the app off.. you have to hard reset. Serious bugs like this have increased over recent years (and I think I've been using this for a solid 5 years now).

But the real deal breaker is the video stability. Multiple triggers during the same game session.. record, stop, record-new-video, stop... etc. The first two videos look fine at first. The other two videos were choppy and stuttering with consistent frame losses everywhere. And then I went back in and reviewed the first two vids I found brief frame drop stutters in what had been captured.

And that is AFTER I changed the codec from the previous hardware preference that I had been using for the last 4 years... only to find that my most recent attempts with that hardware powered encoding preference produced unusable vids with even worse frame drops than the above mentioned 4 vid cap sequence.

Whether this is an increase in unstable code within the app or the further degradation of the forced trashware updates that is "Windows"... who knows. Too much time has been lost capturing videos to find that they were completely unuseable upon later review.

To be clear, I have tried capping things recently (mid 2024) on two different machines, one running Windows 10, the other running Windows 11, both running nVidia RTX cards... and both have proven consistent in capturing degraded videos, so it's not a dying GPU that can be blamed.

Going back to OBS seems like the wisest course. OBS is free, works exactly the same on Linux, extremely customisable with far more options that you can play with... and the learning curve really is minimal. If you're a real gamer, the kind that likes to just "figure things out", a couple of brief online tutorials can be skimmed through to get an idea of what does what, and where to look. If you know creative software, especially pro video editing... you can honestly figure out OBS within a few minutes.

For what you give up in terms of depth-of-control by using Action, you once gained the benefit of higher quality encoding, lower CPU/memory footprint, higher frame rate caps and a more convenient user interface... not anymore. Those features mean nothing if you can't use the videos that it records, or when the app fails to properly save a recording to file at all.. or those other times that it ultimately chokes the life out of your system.

This is now a piece of software that has existed for 10 years and seen many patches. While admirable that it has performed well for so long, it is still a Windows-only piece of software, which means at some point, Windows will win at making it unfixable because it is "too old."

What happened with the facebook streams? Seems like I can't even do it anymore.
