There are two console commands related to difficulty; "d_skill" and "startskill"; unfortunately, neither command updates to reflect the active difficulty when loading a save. While "d_skill" seems to only ever change manually, "startskill" changes when you start a new game or use level select, keeping that value until you start another new game or change WADs.
It's possible there's a less dumb way of checking this, but the best way I can think of is to load the save and make note of the max kill/item counts on the automap, then using level select to choose that map and trying difficulties one by one until the counts match. Of course, this still relies on the map actually changing those counts based on difficulty/modifiers.
It should be noted that all the commands for modifiers update accurately (shows "1" when on) when loading a game, and can be checked with the following commands:
If only "d_skill" updated too... Or if the saves just listed the difficulty on the save menu instead.
Moreover, nice profile - love your advertising against bundles addiction.. I'm affected too - and., yep.. your nick sounds 100% italian.
the only down is that you lack of weapons and ammo but you can take them with the cheat.
but yeah, knowing the skill level in the savings would be nice.
