Enough with the issues. What is your opinion on "Legacy of Rust"?
It's pretty tiring to see so many complaints, issues, bugs* and what-not, so... What do you folks think about the new content? It's worthy of being an official campaign? Would you change something?

I honestly just started it (currently suffering on the second map lol), but so far I'm diggin' the "Ghouls". They're really annoying, but it fits very well considering their origins as old concepts for the Lost Souls.

One thing I particularly don't like (and that also happens in Quake and Quake 2's remasters) is that the new episodes seems to follow the same design philosofy: big levels, enormous enemy count, throw in some cut content, a portal and call it a day. It can get a little old by the end, but I'll try to keep an open mind.

Any of you already completed it?

DISCLAIMER:
Talking about bugs, technical issues and other related stuff is totally fine and expected (otherwise how those would be adressed?), but I made this thread to deviate the attention from people nitpicking every minor/meaningless detail like the new name, GZDoom being better, no Brutal Doom, etc. That sort of negativity can be contagious if you let it spread.

The final map was a bit underwhelming because it didn't feel like the end, but I personally loved the entire episode - really good stuff, and the new guns were fun to use too

not finished yet but I like it, levels have really different looks from each other, difficulty in UV is fair but though (I'm not a player that can finish Sunlust without becoming insane). Levels are really cool looking and I got a few nasty traps that made me jump, music is excellent too. The secret level is cool too, it's not just another level like some secret levels from ultimate doom were.

It certainly feels more in line with the usermap packs (with all the circlestrafe fights and sprawling areas) than something that feels canonic and classic in style and gameplay (like No Rest for the Living or Sigil 1-2 are despite Sigil's arse moments). I would say if it wasn't labelled as official, nobody would care, I reckon a runner up place in the next cacowards would have been it's highest aim.

Aesthetically speaking, it reminds me of one of the episodes from "Dimension of the Machine". I know that was from Quake, but It feels like they could be connected somehow.

Really loved the buildup and the plot twist of the level... Although I ended up getting killed fast lol.
I just now heard this was even a thing. It's funny because I was literally about to post something along the lines of, "When there's a QuakeCon sale but you already have all the Id and Beth games you could ever want in your library" lol. Then I saw this and felt super happy. So initial response: just super happy it exists at all.

The only thing I dislike is the flamethrower. Flame has way too big hitbox. Same with that one new enemy that shoots flame projectiles

Everything else is fine

Although it has too much of a fan made PWAD vibe.
Unlike NRFTL which feels like something that could be officially released in the 90s even tho it's slightly older than that

Imo it doesn't deserve a 1st place in cacowards. 2nd? Maybe. But not first
(But who am I kidding, of course it will win the first place because everyone there sucks each other's dongs)

No. It's ass. The new monsters suck -- all of them. The new weapons suck, too. These unnecessary modifications make it harder to use QoL mods like the smooth sound and weapon mods by PerKristian.

Map design is okay-ish through map 12; some maps have really good design, others are at least above-average. But the last two maps are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I played LoR using VkDoom (a GZDoom fork) on HMP skill. I found both secret maps. In map 13 and 14, I had to use God mode because I wouldn't be able to finish normally.

You know, when a game does nothing but to throw endless amounts of enemies at you, it's just a bad game, and the only thing you can do about it is to delete it.

One grave mistake the mappers have done is punish the player for power-up pick-ups. You just don't do that. Power-ups are supposed to be rewarding, not punishing.

One last words about the music. The first few tracks have that annoying amateur MIDI sound that I hate so much, some later tracks sound like they were ripped from some anime. Both is bad. After all, Doom is supposed to have a rock/metal soundtrack.

I think it's unplayable because of all the bugs in this version. Example, I can't tell if I still have rad suit because the screen doesn't turn green when I pick one up.

They also need to patch that one demon's fireball attack. I'm standing nowhere near where the sprite for the flame is drawn but I'm still taking damage? BS.

The flame has a large radius.
Levels itself are mostly ok, but so far i didnt see any masterpiece. Whats specific for this campaign is really large amount of enemies which i like in large spaces, not in small rooms quickly filling by enemies.

Flamethrower and its weird splash damage is unusable piece of xxxx for most situations. Its not a problem until you find levels where game force you to use flame cause no other ammo lay around, in combination with thin halls (like in E1M6) its nothing else than trolling from mapmaker.

Overaly i dislike new enemies, All of them are so annoying. Just foom guys are fine.

Another pain is fact that enemies can sometimes shoot directly THROUGHT some end of the wall, i saw few times how mancubuses killed me with ball which flight into my face throught solid corner in early levels. No idea why is this happening.

Plus i found one bugged secret, and im just still in E1. I expect more problems.

Going through it in UV, but the first impact with The Coiled City makes me see it almost as a bad joke and I'm tempted to drop it (not that the last part of the previous level was any better in terms of enemy placement!). I really enjoyed how the second map developed tohugh, while I personally found the 3rd one a bit too long.

There's one thing which bugs me though: Why would you use a flamethrower against INFERNAL demons? That's just plain stupid as a concept and it's no wonder this was never a thing in the original release. Would you fight a Balrog with flames? I just can't get over this XD

And the damage radius is significantly larger than the flame's radius. This is a bug. Either the damage radius needs to be fixed to match the size of the sprite, or the size of the sprite needs to be fixed to match the damage radius.
