You can if you want, but you should keep the WAD file in the game's /base folder. Right-click on it and select browse local files to find it.

I think so that if you play doom 2 mods on gz doom, they don't have missing textures, at least thats what happened to me

I use the DOOM II version to play the GZDoom sourceport through the classic launcher. The Unity version of that game is no longer worth it to play.

im pretty sure that the doom 2 wad is already included in doom + doom 2, so no need for doom 2 to be installed.

TL;DR: yes, just install 'DOOM + DOOM II'.

If you want to play new remaster by Nightdive and enjoy the fullest supply of content, install 'DOOM + DOOM II'.

If you want to play old Nerve remasters / Unity ports,
- install 'DOOM + DOOM II' and select 'previous-re-release' branch to play Doom 1 content,
- install 'DOOM II' to play Doom II, Final Doom (TNT Evilution, Plutonia Experiment) and Master Levels content.

If you want to get original WADs to use with unofficial source ports like GZDoom, install 'DOOM + DOOM II' and grab WAD files from 'base' folder.

I think it's pretty stoopid.. I bought doom (1993) and doom 2 and my library for all my doom games looked clean, now I have "Doom I + Doom II" and then another Doom II 🙄

Since the bethesda ports go out of their way to bury and obfuscate them, it's a good idea to save and archive the original .iwads, if only to preserve them uncensored.
