Solution : Black screen at launch with No sync
After a lot of troubleshooting & hours of frustration, I finally found a simple workaround or fix to the dreaded black screen issue, this is a solution for Black screen at launch with no sync and NOT when entering a match.

None of the below worked for me and even if it did it was temporary.

You will continue to get black screen however its an issue with some kind of initial handshake/authentication that is not supported by your internet provider, thus the black screen.

SOLUTION: if the game was working and then stops working the next time you launch the game try below.

1. Close the game if you get a black screen at launch with no sync. Dont need to exit steam.
2. Switch the internet connection to your PC.
a. Disconnect LAN or Wifi (ISP connection), in my case it is ACT Fibernet in India
b. Connect your phone to PC with USB cable, turn off Wifi on phone (so that it does not connect using ISP again), let it go on Mobile network, enable USB tethering (in my case my Mobile carrier is Airtel).
c. Give it a min to connect, let your PC recognize the new connection, Steam will take probably few seconds too.
3. Launch Heroes and Generals from steam and Voila!!! you are at login screen, no black screen this time.
4. Once game is launched, switch back to ISP i.e. Disconnect USB from mobile and the game will refresh and reconnect as long as you saved password.

I have tried wireless hotspot, it did not work sometimes, but USB tethering always worked. If it still did not work for you, you may try steps in below link to unblock some ports:

It is possible that both you ISP and Mobile network have this issue and it may still not work, keep trying other networks, or may be if you are good with internet troubleshooting to find out if its feature on the Router or somewhere in ISP that needs to enabled or disabled. Also could be DNS related or some other ♥♥♥♥. I'll keep testing and post it here.

This is for my love for the game and all those who still want to play.

Now its upto H&G devs to figure out what is at launch of game that is not supported by ISP, but works on Mobile carrier network. This is the same solution when update download fails, or you are are stuck at loading plugin- progress bar not moving while updating.

I have spent countless hours troubleshooting and everything on forums (steam & HnG), other games black screen issues.. refer to 1st link if you want to know what all i tried, but this is by far the best I could come up with. If this was already there in forums, I could not find it that easy or confused by so many other steps people posted. However this has worked everytime since last few days and probably a solution to all other launch game black screen issues for other games.

I am also going to check with my ISP to see if there is something that they can do at their end to fix this issue.

Did some more troubleshooting and found out that its Damn DNS that is interfering with the initial hand shake. I had set it to google DNS for some reason, changed it to open DNS 208.67.222.222 and damn that fixed Black screen for me.
  • Had to do that both on router and on Ethernet adapter
  • If you dont know how to change DNS, just google it.

Finally We have a Fix !!!!!
