Grease gun is is good at close range and can quickly kill an enemy compared to unnmoded garand, but when you fully upgrade the M1 garand to 2-shot kill it can be a good weapon to kill enemies equipped with gold-heavy-set.

So you can check out yourself with which weapon you feel better with.

I like them Both but best to slowly Nod them alittle.

Buy a second guy and get the M3 on him.
That way, you can switch solders mid-match, to suit the current situation.

Mid-match loadout swapping is unlikely to ever be a thing in H&G, and the game is designed around owning numerous soldiers per faction instead. Unfortunately, the grinds are rather exessive when grinding several soldiers, especially if you plan on grinding a soldier for every weapon type and role. (Which, while providing the highest degree of versatility in a match, is very much a pain to earn.)

To start off with you'll probably have an easier time using the Grease gun but for a more experienced player the Garand (with the right modifications) has much more killing potential. In the long run, as mentioned above, you will ideally want to have seperate soldiers with different weapons so you can switch to whatever best suits your needs at any given time.

M1G will unlock more weapons (bolt-action, LMG's, and AR), while the grease gun will only unlock more SMG's and the fast reload badge.

Personally I would stick with the M1G, but as Cowman said the grease gun is a little easier for beginners.

If you do decide to go the SMG route, add a spring and trigger to your gun (full ROF), you can take these mods off and put them on newer SMG's (so no waste of credits)
