Serious Sam Classics: Revolution

vote kicking?
There doesn't seem to be votekicking in this game, and I was wondering if it would be added any time soonl.

Number one priority right now is finishing the dev's fursona multiplayer model. Complete with its own campaign, animations, and voice lines. You'll get your voting and multiplayer pause default to 0 after.

I believe that what the game really needs is a game mode where everyone single enemy is replaced by a pair of Kleers.

With Serious difficulty multipliers in place, obviously.

the real priority here needs to be replacing all the enemies with "fursecuters"
they are a real life menace and there needs to be more games the represent the furry plight.

is there a reason why you would not want votekicking?

Vote kicking in the Serious Sam community has proven to be, well.. let's call it "unreliable", or arguably you can call it "unfair". (Like a lot of people have mentioned before.)

Voting in general hasn't been implemented yet because it's not much of a priority, plus of these opinions of people that votekicking should not be implemented, so it's still more a discussion point rather than a feature in the pipeline.

I'm not sure how people's opinions are about this in other games, so maybe someone can enlighten me on that.

Could it be made that vote kicking is optional for servers?
Like theres some servers that are freeplay and anyone can join and play as long as they want without being kicked and some have kicking enabled where they can join but can still be kicked.
I play with a group that runs through sam games every saturday and the reason we dont play revolutions is because theres no votekicking and some "pausing" issue i've heard where a player paused the game for the whole server and no one knows who it is, and they can't do anything about it being paused, or has that issue been solved?
Melissa Nov 17, 2014 @ 6:15am
That issue has been solved since the first release in 2001 ^^

There's an option "Clients can pause" which you can set to false.
Captain Goodnight Nov 17, 2014 @ 4:38pm
"Clients can pause" should be default to 0, which it isn't.

Two questions.

1. Why isn't voting a priority? For a game where co-op is a pretty big part it seems rather strange that letting players vote on changing the difficulty or changing the map is not much of a priority.
2. What exactly are the benefits of not having the ability to votekick?

People have generally stated that they're being unfairly votekicked by lots of people online in other games such as Serious Sam HD and Serious Sam 3.

Well what about the times when theres someone that does need to be kicked? Say theres someone that is on a server that has client pausing enabled and he pauses and just alt tabs out, than thats a ruined server because no can do anything about it. I understand that thats an option to turn off but there is other reasons that someone should be kicked from a server, and if client pausing is something that is there I think that vote kicking should be able ot be in servers, and can be turned off and on like the pausing.

Don't get me wrong by the way, I'm not disagreeing with you guys. Vote kicking is very useful. It will just make 50% of the multiplayer community upset and the other 50% happy. It's a very thin line. ^^ I'll probably implement it eventually.

Also, I'll make sure that "clients may pause" defaults to false in the next patch.

You say that votekicking wouldn't work due to certain people who are completely votekick-happy. I say it's BECAUSE of people like us them that votekicking is a good addition to any game server.

You saw how we acted during our events. We weren't exactly the greatest people to play with, were we? (at least to anyone not in the group) Riddle me this: what if people like us decided to join a Revolutions server and ruin it for other people? What if Normie wants to set up a game for a couple of his buddies but can't because a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will join, spamming the segregation gospel of Moonman and Johnny Rebel, wasting coin-op lives and generally being a complete hindrance to any enjoyment? You can't get rid of them. You either deal with them or leave which means you don't get to enjoyf a game you paid for. Poor Normie can't even set a password on the server because apparently you took that feature out too.

Of course people will be sad if they get kicked from a game. I bet you more people will be pissed off that they can't get rid of some jackass who's ruining the game for everyone else. At least make votekicking a toggleable option so if you want a server to be open for everyone, they have that choice. Don't take choices away from people.

48 man Sam would be pretty awesome, but I suppose if we wanted to have it as an event, we'd need to get pirated copies that don't connect to Steamworks.
Captain Goodnight May 14, 2015 @ 11:27pm
IIRC, Sam never had password-protected servers. The most you can do is have your server unlisted.
Melissa May 15, 2015 @ 2:54am
Classic has password protected servers, you have to set net_strConnectPassword on the server using the console, and then before connecting to the server as a client, set that same variable in the console to connect. It's not pretty, but it works.
