I recently picked up the og XBOX and the port. Most notable differences were lesser amount of enemies, improved models, levels cut into two parts occasionally, Serious Bomb/Chainsaw in TFE, a larger variety of textures, life system which kinda made the game too easy (I played on serious and had almost 400 extra lives at the end of my playthrough) and many others. The changes were done with improving the game and balancing it for the OG XBOX in mind. Though I cannot deny how satisfying it is to pull combos.
But it is far from the definitive way to play the classic encounters. I'd say that it's a different experience altogether, an unique way to play the classics. But I really recommend you to experience the game for yourself on the original hardware. The game and the console will cost you a bit though.
But I cannot argue with you there, there were some improvements. However you can get an almost identical experience with the XBOX modpack for Revolution and like Dreamy Cecil said, you can also download the mod for TSE (you need Xvid codecs).
