"Scourge: Outbreak" vs "The Scourge Project"
A lot of you may be wondering exactly what the relationship is between "The Scourge Project" (released in April 2010) and "Scourge: Outbreak". When we released Outbreak on XBLA last year, we prepared the following detailed explanation (with an even more detailed downloadable PDF at the bottom of the page) here: http://www.scourgeoutbreak.com/about/scourge-project-vs-scourge-outbreak/

As a gesture of heartfelt thanks and goodwill to our community, we have given away a free copy of Outbreak to everyone who owns the original TSP. We sincerely hope that both fans and critics of the original game will take the time to try out this heavily overhauled, much improved re-make of "The Scourge Project", now called "Scourge: Outbreak".

Please feel free to use this thread to ask any questions or clarify any doubts that may remain after reading the information in the link above.

Thank you very much! I liked TSP very much already. I will love SO for sure.

I played and finished the original and was left thinking, "You know, this game would have shined with some TLC". Episodes 3&4 never materialized, the originals were stripped from Steam and I was left with that warm feeling one gets when they realize they managed grab something before it disappeared from the planet (he said, glancing at his copy of Deadpool).

Lo and behold the game re-emerges with exactly what was missing back then, the love and attention it needed. I was ready to purchase the game again but amazingly, I don't have to. The best I can do is say thank you and purchase the DLC.

It's developers like you that give the PC it's rightful place at the head of the pack! :TheKeys:

Thank you! :)

Some advertisement of this would go some ways for you. It's just by accident that I happened to stumble accross this.

A quick check in the library doesn't show anything for DLC keys. I don't really expect more than the base game, I'd just like to know for certain if I need to buy the parts that I want or not.

I'll be having a look at both. I may jump into Outbreak first since it's been many years since I looked at the title, then see how it went. I'm honestly glad to see the offer extended to original owners of 1+2 as I would have been extremely disappointed if a game I had bought was re-released as a "fixed" version for full price.

Good on you guys, and I realize it's frustrating but hopefully the extra time and learning will have made Outbreak an enjoyable game.

Will there be completely removed The Scourge Project: Episode 1 and 2? I hope so. :footprint:

If you had the original TSP, then the free gift only includes Scourge: Outbreak, but not any DLC, concept Art Book or Soundtrack. All of these are available as well, though, for a small (and we hope reasonable) price on the Steam store. :-)

TSP is no longer available on Steam, but (and this surprised us, to be honest!) quite a few people have been asking if it will be re-added. It's something that we're not against considering, but if we do so it would have to be done carefully so that people don't get confused and/or think that we're trying to fool them into buying two products, one of which is the re-make of the other.

Thanks for Scourge Outbreak! Is it more optimized now? I enjoyed the first one, but performance could've been better.

I, too, would like to personally thank the devs for giving a free copy to all of us that owned the original game. I will remember this and look into all your future projects that your team might plan. And I too, enjoyed the original game a lot as well and had a lot of fun playing it.

Thanks again!

have the original, and while it looked good it seemed like it was missing something, and since i got this as a freebie ill give it a good go now, also as for "re-releaseing" the original, why not give it for free to anyone who buys the new version?

We are already studying options with Valve. Stay tunned to see what happens.

Nice gesture for owners of the original - thanks. Outbreak does seem much improved over the original, however it's still missing a few of things that I wished were in the original too: 1) a replayable 'horde' mode that is not tied to campaign progression 2) selectable weapon loadouts (including the weapon variants) 3) less bullet-spongey enemies as they just make the weapons feel weak. A horde mode would make a huge difference to the game's longevity imo.

GREAT job, the relaunch is great compare to the original, not enought Co-op action shooter game these day, but you did it, I really like it! There is still some thing I would change or tweak, but overall I'm looking foward to finish the campaign. Thx for this free release, for those like me who bought the original.

I bought the TSP but totally forgot about, so I was confused when this new game showed up in my library.

Thanks, I guess.

I had always hoped that this series wasn't dead in the water, so glad to see that you've continued the project. As other have said, it was a game that was quite promising but needed some polish.

Downloading the new game now, Quite liked the co op in the first game so I think I will be playing with a friend.

Thanks!
