We recently sent out our April newsletter! A LOT has been happening in the last few months, so we're excited to finally spill the tea a bit. So here's an excerpt from our last email about what we've been up to! 🎉 TAGS Event in Copenhagen

We recently showed our game to the public for the first time EVER! In February we had the opportunity to show Discounty as part of Copenhagen Gaming Week. Our core team is located in Denmark, but we were able to bring in our publishing team and social/comms manager Ian, and it was actually the first time we all got to meet together in person! It was really special to chat with each other while watching random people trying Discounty, while also getting useful feedback to improve the game.

🧪 PLAYTESTING: Getting your feedback

We've also had our first closed playtests since our last newsletter! We invited a small number of testers to play the first two hours of Discounty. As they played, they provided ongoing commentary and reactions to everything they experienced. We are currently preparing for a much larger-scale playtest in the next couple months, so stay tuned if you've signed up already, or join our newsletter to get the signup link!

🪞 CHARACTER CREATOR: Be who you want

Our much-anticipated character creation system is now fully implemented! There are 6 categories you can adjust to change your character's appearance, each with a wide range of color options. Behold:

About Me: I’m a working musician in London but for the last 5 years I’ve been composing music and doing audio for games! It was an easy bridge of two of my passions! Bringing worlds to life and bouncing ideas off a dev team has been an absolute joy. Especially inside the indie game scene where such amazing art and game design really helps fuel the music I can make. I love working with soundfonts and working around their limitations but also any excuse to make something grandiose is never out of the question!

🏆 Some A MAZE.-ing News

Discounty has been nominated for an A MAZE. Award[2025.amaze-berlin.de]! We are honored to be nominated for the WINGS Award, presented by WINGS Fund[www.wingsfund.me], which recognizes games made by teams with women & gender-marginalized developers in key positions, like us!

As part of the nomination, we'll be able to exhibit a demo of Discounty throughout the event from May 14-17 in Berlin. So if you happen to live in the area and want to give Discounty a try, please come by. (And congrats to our fellow nominees! So many cool games!!)

Its been 4 months with no news, game looks almost complete from what I’ve seen. You can Wishlist on Xbox already but it seems the tentative Summer 2025 release date has disappeared off the internet. I don’t have social media so I was wondering if the Developers have posted any kind of update since November anywhere? Thanks!...

🛍️ Discounty Devlog: What We've Been Working On Lately

Hello shoppers,

It's been a while since we last updated you here about what we've been working on, so we wanted to give you a quick little peek behind the scenes! But first: we'd like to give a special thanks to all the mystery shoppers who participated in our recent Closed Playtesting for Discounty. We'll be doing another, larger round of playtesting soon, so if you missed out on the last round, make sure to sign up for our newsletter[crinklecutgames.com] for more details.

What We've Been Up To

In the last few months we've been working hard to finalize all of the systems in the game. That means doing a lot of the "boring" things that nevertheless have to get done. For example, we finally added multiple save slots into the game, which is of course very important, but maybe not so interesting to talk about:

On the more exciting side, we've also been expanding our rotating cast of shoppers who come into Discounty. You've got a lot of customers to serve, and not all of them are locals. Blomkest is conveniently located on the highway, and your bright billboard lures in many commuters every day. To make sure your store feels full and varied, we needed to have lots of unique NPCs who could stop in to shop. For a while, many of these customers have been creepy clones of each other — but no more! Here's a sneak peek of some of the new NPCs:

We've also put the finishing touches on our Challenges system. These are daily and weekly goals you can complete in your store, like selling X cartons of milk in a day, or ordering a certain number of boxes of fish. This encourages players to continually optimize their stores to earn reward points to unlock more wares, expand their inventories, and more:

Behind the scenes, we’ve been working on the next newsletter, some new game refinements, and a few things we can’t quite talk about just yet. But we promise: there’s plenty more in store for Discounty, and you're going to start hearing from us a lot more frequently in the coming months.

Discounty Playtest Invitation & Newsletter Update

Attention Shoppers!

In the last Discounty newsletter the Crinkle Cut team focused on NEW SHOP DECOR, NEW FEATURES, and more! Today we’re excited to announce the first ever public playtest 😱 among the latest meet the team, and a sneak peak at some character customisation.

In the last newsletter, Crinkle Cut were hard at work on a character customisation system, and have made great progress! (Thanks in part to your excellent suggestions.)

There are still a lot of options the team want to add, and are working on how to access the system in-game, but here's a snapshot of some of the looks players will be able to create:

Meet the Team: Mathias (Programmer)

Programmer Mathias sat down to talk about their experience with character creators and how they’re bringing that knowledge to Discounty.

Crinkle Cut Games are looking for some lucky shoppers to gain exclusive access to playtest Discounty. This is by no means a DEMO or representative of the final product but they would love to get some hands-on community feedback.

Windows PC with Steam (playtesting on other systems or consoles is not possible!)
Sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement — basically an agreement that you can't talk about your experience in the playtest, since you might see things that we don't want to share with everyone yet)
