Harlow is 3rd, but you really need to spam all abilities off cooldown to be effective.
Wren and Mac kill rate is too low and have serious survival issues in later missions.
Melee don't make it very far and run into survival issues the soonest.
The best players who get really high mission numbers only seem to use Vaan.
Primary threats/reasons to lose
Barricade loss (non-issue unless you use Sophie's skeleton)
Air Unit leaks over time
Hunter units stalking you to death
Defensive Barrier effect from the Ice guys
So we want a ranged hero with good mobility skills and a way to interrupt the defense barrier cast. Well that just leaves Max really. Sophie technically has stun w/ the trap, but it is limited use and she seems to do poorly at everything else.
So being able to delete or kite hunters into damage is going to be a necessary tactic no matter which hero you play.
Max is probably the best ..
Crossbow > everything else in terms of kill rate, range, safety
He has stun + burst damage + doublejump to juke enemies or cheese melee hunters entirely
And an overdrive that's good for deleting large enemies
Ok! What's your advice for playing melee solo?
For ranged i can generally cover a couple of angles from a choke point and mop up enemies or soften them up for my traps.
I need to try some melee
same also his overdrive can still let enemies enter the rift you just dont lose points so its quite useful.
With a good trap set up, your only threats are big dudes or flyers. Guess what a sniper deals with fairly well?
i ofc like Vaans character too they're my faves in looks/feel but tbh Harlow with her pet Henry is my absolute fave!
(and she looks hella fire in the sunlight skin)
i will say however, i played a run with max and won the entire thing, his melee power skill ability came in clutch so much and pretty much just absolutely melted bosses!
plus his cannonball skill is pretty great, if you play on higher mouse sensitivity you can sort of flick (sluggishly) his bombs over great distances!
and his trap skill lets yo ufly over half the map get some awesome airtime kills in and land feeling boss af!
Harlow otoh literally has a freaking mortar in her back pocket (2 charges) and when maps like the observatory have long spawns times i can have fun and join in on the mortar guys fun!
the fliers do get away from me more frequently as Harlow tho, whereas max or Vaan can make short work of them, unless they are the laser tank and esp if that laser tank decides not to even enrage on you and instead just makes beeline for portal even at like next to no hp (maybe bug?)
also can i just say.. Harlow has some great voice lines, and her artsy personality with her decorations, and her comments, and just how everything feels with her, i love this characters personality the most! idk much about the others tho!
and she has such pretty firework animations!
anyway tldr for solo Harlow ftw! or max for clutch and bear as tertiary clutch! and vaan is good in co op.
Otherwise I will always be a blunderbuss enjoyer, so Harlow is my go-to. I just feel like its lacking a little in damage? melee+headshots feel a little lacking but that's probably just me.
Also, the name is one I've never seen and it's so close to harlot I feel like it's a blunder. :p
Her skeleton also doubles down on barricade breaking, as he draws more melee aoe attacks.
