What happened to Wolfenstein 2009?
Why are there no digital distibutors with it for sale?

I can probably tell you why it went down. When Zenimax bought id software the rights to the Wolfenstein name transferred to them. Wolfenstein was developed by Raven Software which is owned by Activision. It's possible Zenimax isn't renewing the trademark license and Activision isn't giving up publishing rights. This is just speculation though. If the issue with Doom on XBLA is any indicator, this probably will get resolved at some point.

I've figured thats what it was considering the aquisition but at the same time they're making a new wolfenstein game so they must have the license and Wolf3D reappeared on the XBLA

id Software always owned the Wolfenstein trademark, so as far as developing a new game under the name goes. No problem there. The issue is licensing the game content that Raven Software/Activision owns that just happens to have been released at one point under the name "Wolfenstein". I'm guessing when the new game is closer to release, and they want to build up the hype machine, you'll probably see it reappear.

Obviously, this is an old post. But I've been really curious about what exactly has been going on with this game as well, because GameTrailers.com has completely removed its page and all trailers, their review, etc. for the game as well. Everything else Wolfenstein-related is still on there, much like Steam. Just seems very, very odd. GameTrailers is owned by Viacom, but there's no connection I can think of between that and Wolfenstein, id, Raven, or Activision that would cause them to take the game down from their website completely.

I have the game in my steam directory. Bought it some time ago. I'd love to trade it, because the game simply sucked imho. Too redundant. Especially in the towns. AI was pretty lame too. Lemme know if you're interested in trading for it.

I don't know where to begin with what doesn't make sense with that trade lol

Whether you can't trade games in your "directory" or maybe you meant library or whether you don't have a tradeable copy in inventory. Either way, some clarification would help.

They did the same thing with Wolf RPG. Then again i found that better than Wolfenstein 2009.

This is stupid. Although the game had some CoD tropes, it was a pretty neat game with awesome weapons, enemy designs, etc.

I know this was an Activision-published game, but so was Return to Castle Wolfenstein, yet that game is still available. Certain games need a way to be preserved and not forgotten and this game is no exception.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I came across a retail copy (DVD) of this game while going thru some boxes. It was still sealed. Anyway, I opened it, and attempted to install it. It got maybe a 1/4 of a bar, and then just hung there saying it was registering components. After 10 minutes of no other activity, I stopped it. Rebooted and tried again, still no luck. The retail key on the back of the manual will not work here on Steam either.
Any suggestions? I have Windows 10, 64 bit.

I'm thinking it probably doesn't get along with Windows 10, or else the DVD is corrupted. I know it runs fine on XP, but I've not tried it on a 7 or higher.

@Star-Reaver
Did you already get it working?
I always had that problem too and somewhere out in the web found a way to get the running. Something about a Windows update file called KB2918614 messes up the install/registration process.

The fix (for me at least) is to copy the ENTIRE contents of the dvd to your computer/hard drive.
I suggest doing this in your C:/ drive and not the desktop. I made a folder called Wolf2009InstallBypass and copied everything there. Once that's done find the Setup.exe file in there and use that to start the install process. (no to the Direct X option when it appears) Of course you'll want to have a different folder created so you can install the game there.

Basically you're installing the game from your computer to your computer instead of using the dvd lol how about that? Hope it works for ya.

Thanks, I will give that a try this weekend. I could not get it to work and kind of gave up on it. Thanks for the suggestion!!
