OT _ Can anyone suggest a strategic/tactical turn based space combat game?
Not a 4X, something focused on combat and ships building, or something like that.
Sorry of the OT.
Thanks.

Isn't that one in real time?

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI. Not on Steam, released 2006. Massive 100 year civil war in 2nd and 3rd century China with over 700 unique characters that lead troop, run your empire, and have relationships with each other that profoundly impact gameplay.

Nice, thanks. But it doesn't sound like a space combat game.

It sure is...sorry about that. I was going to suggest master of Orion II because it has tactical TB combat but then again..it is 4x....its an oldy but goodie though if you are so inclined to try it.

I'll give it a try nonetheless, thanks!

Sure! Oh you may also want to take a look at the first Sword of the Stars (not sots2)..it focuses pretty heavy on combat and less emphasis on the 4x part in terms of having to crunch numbers etc..although i'd still say it definetly qualifies as 4x. The combat is tactical light though..it mostly involves designing fleets and weapons systems and choosing what weapons to fire in battle etc....it doesnt have as much control as a fully turn based combat would...in my opinion. http://store.steampowered.com/app/42890/?snr=1_4_4__131

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. an RTS game with ship building and player controlled combat against the AI is my recommendation. If you dont mind it being an RTS game.

Star Hammer might be of interest to you. It's a turn based fleet combat game.

The turn based requirement really hurts. If you drop that...

You buy ships but those ships come with no weapons or shields at all. Picking a ship's load-out is pretty satisfying, though. You can decide for yourself how much trading will be involved.

The ultimate turn based ship combat game isn't a computer game*, it's a board game: Star Fleet Battles[en.wikipedia.org]. Though I should warn you that the learning curve is a litttttle steep. Kinda like Devil's Tower, WY.

(* OK, so actually Interplay published some Starfleet Universe games. They were real-time combat plus they are pretty hard to find now.)

Sins of Solar Empire, not turn based but heavy on the combat. I pretty much play it like a turn based, pause every few seconds and micro manage alot of the action. Highly recommend it

Try Stardrive 2, it's a bit buggy and unpolished, but can be fun.
