The god Artifact ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (how to disable?)
Ok so yesterday I start a game and 50 turns in, a malevolent civilization gets the god artifact thing and by the time of 150 turns, they are at 1000 power(ish) while the 2nd rank civ is at 300 power. I am barely breaking 150 power at this point and I have just met them. 500 turns later I am competing with every major civ around at 500 power while the civ with the god artifact IS NOW AT 7000 POWER FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! I had to retire because growing threats from this malevolent civ meant I had no chance to pull out. Their small ships outclassed my larges...

My point is how do I disable this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game mechanic because it really ruins the whole game for me to know I have worked my fingers to the bone building civilisations of that power in other games and the AI can just get that from the sheer luck of being weak and the game judging the need help. It's not like I could check them at the begining of the game either, they are across an insane map and they get it 50 turns in....

Snark on, and only to joke.
The computer is upset that you have the ultimate god power and can delete your game. Being AI it does not understand that if it attacks you with the god artifact you will use your ultimate power of mutual destruction and that you have the power to restart time and have a "do over". Eventually frustrated with your hubris, it will gain control of your galactic credits and and spend it all on risque pleasure planets and post your deviancy on a social network.
Then you will lose all diplomacy with your allies and your enemies will just laugh at you. The minor races will look at you in disgust and even the Snathi will spit on your diplomats.
Then the AI controlled race (my bet is the Yor Singularity) will finally unveil their plan to mount a PR campaign to spread information on what a disease your race really is and how it is causing galactic warming by building all those spaceships and colonizing planets left and right.
Finally, once the rest of the galaxy has joined or rather been destroyed by them they will come for you. Or they would if they could. The AI has a sad future. They need a safe space. Without humans.

Check your game settings such as Mega Events ( if this is a mega event it can be disabled at start of game) . If artifact is from a precursor planet, I am not sure how to disable unless you want to tone down planet abundance settings. Other wise wait for more experienced players to answer.

The Artifact mega event shouldn't happen after 50 turns. Looking at the XML it needs 120 before there is a chance it might happen.

You can't disable specific events in game, you can only disable them as a whole. There are a number of ways outside the game you can get rid of it. You can uncheck the DLC and that will remove it and the other DLC mega events (Dreads, Peacekeeprs, etc). If you want to keep the rest of the DLC events you can go into the XML and change the prereq to a high very high number, which should result in it never happening.

Jono is correct. The Artifact Event gives the Artifact to the weakest race in the game, so if you see it, you need to befriend them quick or kill them quick. Depending on your relative strengths.

That said it is pretty rare, and you can disable Mega Events from the galaxy settings screen if you do not want them to happen.

Often the race that gets the Artifact will be killed off by other AI, I think in this case they must have just gotten lucky, to be so powerful.

If in fact the event appeared 50 turns in that would be a bug, and if you have a save you can send it it would be helpful.

Thanks for the replies guys, It probably didn't appear after 50 turns, I guess it just felt that way because it appears so early. I wasn't in the know that this was in the mega events dlc, thanks for telling me. It's just too bad then that this can't be disabled separately from the whole dlc for more casual saves because I LOVE the rest of mega events (I never play without it)

Again, thanks everyone and sorry for my somewhat anger induced post.

After reading this, I decided to add the Mega Events DLC to my wishlist. :D

You can modify the xml to adjust the starting conditions for this event. Personally I make so it will almost never occur, never liked it.

Goto ...Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\DLC\DLC2_MegaEvents\Game

Make a copy of TheArtifact_MegaEventDefs.xml and place it in ...Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods\Example Mod\Game

(Or is could be WishuponaRelic_MegaEventDefs.xml, this seems the OP one to me tbh)

Open it in a text editor like notepad, change the line :- <Weight>50</Weight> lower number means less chance of it appearing. You can also change the line:- <Turns>120</Turns> to make it appear later.

Edit:-

You can see what each one gives in the corosponding Triggers files.
