Best homeworld for a custom faction?

I use the minor race system for all my factions (Both me and the aI) as i consider it to be the best. A single class 16 planet with varying astroid count and occasional durantium.

Depends on the race traits and your playstyle

Make your own :)

You'd either want one of the class-16s or the Kryseth system. The former because it gives you a powerful planet right off the bat; the latter for the long-term greater overall potential when the three planets get terraformed.

The two-planet systems generally aren't worthwhile because they're outdone by one of the other two options, with the possible exception of a custom race that can leverage some of the life form type specials (IE aquatic race and the Torian home system).

The class 15-with-perk ones could be useful if you get lucky with their initial setup (Snathi/Bread Basket and you get a bunch of food tiles), but you can't really count on that.

there are advantages to a multi planet system ... mostly, faster population growth and a multiplier for any aoe star bases you put up, influence, and so on. But they have major disadvantages too... the planets are much weaker and you need planet improving tech sooner, they count against your govt limits, and your time would be better spent finding better planets so you may need to pick up the other planet(s) after a long delay (negating the population advantage).

Its just not worth it. I recommend, as others said, the minor faction single planet.

Use your own best judgement. You don't always need a class 16 planet to start with. Everyone here is going to say you need to do this and do that and forgetting they are only recommending and giving you advice. Even if it is based on their experience you only have make your own choices based on what information your take from this.

Do your own thing based on what you know will work with the game. :steamhappy:

My favourite is the Iconian system. Single class 16 planet with one huge continent (and a small one). You can always put multiple full "improvement wheels" on it.

^That aquatic trait is very important to consider if you are creating a tourism heavy civ, the 25% tourism bonus built in is very lucrative, it's nice to have a guaranteed tourism bonus planet, otherwise you are left at the mercy of random finds

At that point you might as well take Iconian, same class 16 planet but with more asteroids

Either way though you end up with less tiles than the 2 or 3 planet systems after terraforming and a lower population growth in your home system for colonization because you don't have at least 2 growth planets to pull from

I'd take Arcea system , with a 12 and an 8, add a class 10 added with ideology and you've got 3 planets to fill your colonizers. But if you're playing Synthetic, then take the class 17, with 2 asteroid belts

How do you select which Homeworld to use? Did not see in Civ builder in the game

It's literally on the first page of the civ builder on the Overview menu

Homeworld (Name)
Star System (Edit)
Startup Screen (Customize)

Edit your star system, change the homeworld name and then customize the start up screen

It's right in between your civ description and your leaders name....
