How get ship templates into current game?
Ship templates created elsewhere after a game has started do not appear in the User ship templates of that game. How would one get these new ship templates into an active game?

I backed up my ship designs folder and then deleted some files to the original folder. I then subsequently restored the backup folder and now all of my user-made ship templates are gone in the ship designer accessed from the main menu. How do I get the game to re-read the ship templates from the ship designs folder?

If this thread is to be believed then it may not be easily possible:

If so, that's pretty idiotic. I have the files but the game won't read them.

One possibility might be to try and put the designs into a mod and to upload them to the Workshop and then download them as a mod which will put them back into my game.

If there isn't a way to get my user ship templates back into the game, or into the game I currently have underway, then I will quit playing this game.

I've spent all day working on ship designs and the game has no way of importing ship designs. This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in a video game.

This is one of the biggest travesties in the history of video-gaming.

I've managed to get them in the game by recopying the backed-up files into the Designs folder. Just swapping folders doesn't appear to work. Instead, the game must create a new Designs folder in-game and then the ship designs must be added.

So, the other part of my conundrum is getting my ship designs into a game that is already active. I presume turning them into a Workshop mod that can then be downloaded back into my game might be the solution.

Its often required when subscribing to workshop that you start new game with race you intend to play, open ship designer, click on New Design, click on Downloaded tab, this is where newly subbed ships from workshop appear. If design does not appear there, then Unsub and Resub to design. The problem is not the Game, its steam's servers.

To get design to be playable in game save template as Ship Design. Its also a good idea to save any designs subed to from workshop as Ship Template just in case.

Downloading a design via workshop using the ingame ship designer always seemed to work for me.

So the way to get ship designs that I've created in-game in the Ship Designer, accessed via the game's Main Menu, is to upload them via the internet to the Steam Workshop, and then open my active game, find the ships that I've uploaded to the Steam Workshop and download them via the internet back into the game that I'm playing? Is this the nice and easy method to get ship designs created in the game into a game that is actually being played in the game?

Never mind, I've found that subscribing to something from the Workshop while in an active game will refresh and restore all the ship designs and templates that one has created and that are stored in the Ship designer accessed from the Main Menu. It's hardly an ideal situation. What if one doesn't have Steam? What if one doesn't have an internet connection? There'd be no way to import ship designs stored in-game into an active game.

Burn Designs folder to a CD. Add folder back up disk set to be routinely included to be backed up. You dont need Steam or the Internet to do this. You can also back up your game files on Stream as well.

What if I don't have a CD burner? How would one get ship designs off a CD into an active game, anyway? Surely there should be an in-game way of importing ship designs created in the Ship Designer in the main menu into an active game, rather than loading them to steam via the internet or burning them onto a CD?

You can copy and save your design folder to another folder or even download it to a USB thumbdrive. There are so many ways to do this and still be able to save all your ships designs.

If burned to a CD you simply copy the folder back to the same folder you burned it from. Same applies to a thumbdrive.

This is why tried to tell you to design your ships with in game ship designer with the faction your making ships for. I've been doing this for 3 1/2 years but who listens to me, an experienced ship designer for GC3?

I do make them with the right faction. The problem is that if one has already started a game, then ship designs created in the main menu's ship designer do not appear in the active game.

Because you have to start a New Game before they will show up as templates. You can't do this with a save game in progress, it doesnt work like that.

Well, I'm saying it should work like that.
