Avast AntiVirus marking prelaunch compiler scripts/files as dangerous
Just a quick note/question, pardon me if someone has already brought this up...When I attempt to start GC3, 3 (or 4, I can't remember specifically) files get blocked by Avast Anti-Virus. They were "caught" by the heuristic behavior shield, and quarantined.

Has this happened to others? Is there a fix, or should I just not play (sorry, but these days I do not create exceptions for files flagged by AV)? Maybe the developers could contact Avast (and other AV providers) and offer their file for actual verification. Most AV companies allow this sort of action in order to reduce false positives.

Thanks,
Rushowr

Avast flags files with false postives. Your best bet is to get rid of Avast as this has been an ongoing problem with Avast for a few years and they have never fixed it. If you need a free AV/FW get Zone Alarm Free. https://www.zonealarm.com/

Avast is CRAP! When I used it they put out a bad update that forced me to have to reformat my hard drive. I will never ever use Avast again.

This problem has been going on for 5 years and they say they will fix it and the never do.

all anti-virus software using heuristics will ocasionally flag false positives mate, if you find one that doesnt im more inclined to be suspicious of it

Heuristics isnt tthe issue with Avast, the isssue is the fact it keeps flagging legit files even after they are reported as false postives. Avast does not properly update its software to prevent this.
I speak from experience as a former Avast User. Five solid years having this issue and it continues to keep happening does not make Avast a reputable AV maker Free or not.

This is all I'm saying.

*sigh* Avast has been particular bad with this. On the bright side, they've also been super helpful in fixing things when they pop up. I'll ping them again.
Ops runs an avast smart scan w nd w/o galciv running. No problems at all. So odd.

+1 to Eftwyrd...
+1 to Yarlen -> Thanks for pinging them

To all of you freaking out over false positives, they happen with Heuristic scanners. You know, like how your email provider or client will put some emails in the spam/junk folder. Avast has not been the greatest since it started the whole "notification" ads, but it's not junk. Heuristic scanning has it's drawbacks, but to be honest I almost never get false positives and haven't had an issue with virii in my 10-ish years working with Avast

You've been lucky.
Like ops, I also use Avast's Antivirus and GC3 opens without the Shield blocking any scripts or processes.

Ha the time I used Avast it had more false positives than any of the otehr antivirus programs I ever used together. But judging by the leaked NSA files they are also an "pain in the ass" for those trying to hack people...so amybe they're doing it right lol.
