I like to play Civ5 for the singleplayer "one more turn" gamplay based around progression and AoW3 for it's high level strategy and complex battle focused war gameplay.
Worst comes to worst you can always "Set Sail" and try it out that way but with the multiplayer being so good and the game itself being well made and with love and care I'd suggest risking your £30 on this, it's a safer bet than many.
I've become very wary of buying new games at release for the full price, but AoW3 didn't disappoint. It's very playable, highly addictive, and "not annoying". I think a demo version would definitely be in the game's favor, because it doesn't have to hide. One of the few games in recent years that didn't feel like a beta when I bought it in the first month.
There are some "issues", like the relative ease of getting and maintaining tier-4 units, but the devs mentioned that this will be addressed in the next patch. My one other problem is that the game doesn't yet have Tigrans! I hope we'll see them in future DLC or an expansion. :)
As I already have games of similar concept(first and foremost, FE:LH), I would like to be confirmed that I am actually getting something new and "worth" the investment, and not something that is very close to what I already got(I dont think it is, but it is hard to tell without actually trying it).
Also, it would help people who are unsure if their systems can handle the game. If they can handle a demo, they are much more inclined to buy the full game.
If the content that separates this game(in a good way) from the rest is less than 30% of the price(personal estimation), I dont think it would be worth my time.
Said in another way, If the only thing that was "better" compared to other fantasy 4X games was the combat, it had to be really, really good to justify me buying it.
With a demo, I would be able to try it enough times and get a feel for the game mechanics and potentials, making it much easier to decide on a buy.
That is why I have adopted the "no demo/trial no buy" policy for a long time. For many years people used piratecopying as demo/trial to decide for a buy, I do not. If the maker doesnt want me to test the product then I wont buy it.
A demo is not something we'll be working on anytime soon I'm afraid.
A free weekend is something we could do.
(But yes, I understand the desire for a free weekend.)
Don't want to offend but you bought hardly any games in the past years. Since Demos/Trials are on PC like non existent anymore.^^
