Units and hero's EXP
So far I saw that heroes get some point to spend to increase attributes or learn new abilities when they level up.

I prefer this kind of level up since it's more customizable and strategic, now all your heroes can be very different even if they have the same class.

But what about the units? I know that they get medals and their attributes go up (I don't know if all or only some), but will there be only silver and gold medals? Will some units have new abilities or an ability upgrade like Vision IV, Leadership, Holy Champion, etc.?

And how about skills (maybe a warlord class skill) that increase the exp ratio of all units in battle like conqueror in shadow magic?

Straight from the Tome of Wonders:

Ranks and Promotions
Each non-Hero unit has a rank. After gaining enough experience, units are promoted in rank, which gives them stats and ability bonuses. By default units start as a Recruit and are promoted in rank to Trooper, Veteran, Expert and Elite respectively. The bonuses received from each rank are determined by both the unit type and tier. Some units even evolve when they are promoted to Elite rank.

Iirc some units also have bonuses specific to the unit for leveling up, outside the type and tier dependant ones.

And yes, there are both class skills and city upgrades that give bonusses on rank. Usually by increasing the rank of newly trained units.

hmm. This is all great but i afraid of snowball effect. You lost battle and let enemy units to get few levels. And now your freshly trained units will not stand a chance against enemy army.
Does unkeep for expert unit bigger than for recruit? Would help to balance things a little.

No, upkeep does not change with rank.

Note that units in AoW3 are rather fragile.
So while trained units do give an advantage, we've not seen any exploits with this mechanic.

Do units earn exp for the final blow only like in SM or they earn exp as soon as they contribute to damage , how it work exactly in aow3 ?

See here's how derailing threads hurts everyone - this was asked in the "compare to Fallen Enchantress" thread but the thread was derailed and locked before we got a real answer.

Thank you for asking again.

They gain experience for many actions, not only killing units, but also dealing damage, casting spells (heroes), healing etc. The definite list of those actions is unknown afaik, but you may rest assured that this latest AoW iteration is no more "trying-to-get-the-final-blow-for-your-most-valuable-units" game.

Technically they get XP for using abilities, which includes spellcasting and melee.
Note that the killing blow gives more XP tehn just dealing damage.

Overall, it means that units - and heroes - that are not in an attacking roll still earn XP and still level up nicely.

Oh, and surviving victorious battle also nets you some XP, afair.
