The armor Hulk is wearing that you're currently freaking out about, I believe, is his Hulk Marvel NOW! costume. Which is based on Marvel's own design - http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/3/31666/3411565-hulk.jpg
Why is Hulk wearing armor in Marvel NOW! I don't know - haven't kept up with the comics recently. Maybe he's tired of his Hulk nips showing.
Though this isn't the first time he's worn armor.
Deadpool has killed the Hulk too, but while he was in his Bruce Banner form.
I think that it is more to do with the Hulk being able to absorb tremendous ammount's of fire, rather than being impervious to fire. Yes, he may be immune to small arms fire, and anything up to like Anti Material Sniper Rifles, but that doesn't mean that he'd be completely immune to sustained shelling from mortar's, tank barrages etc... Much, much heavier weaponary than what conventional ground troops carry, and I suspect that is what the armor is for. You'd have to know the material that the armor is made from, and the thickness of the material to be able to know what type of weapons it protected him from, over a sustained period. Also, I guess that having his own armor would save money on all those torn pant's that Banner must get through.
The more pressing question would be, how does Bruce Banner carry all that armor around with him when he's in human form, for that 1 off time when he transforms into the Hulk?
Why would anyone ask that question? :P.

Well, yeah. I mean, I can take a pen appart, break it down so that it weighs less and transport all of the individual component's that way, but it still weighs the same when I put it back together, as a lose example. The point being, in his Bruce Banner form, how is he supposed to have that armour readily available at all times? It's not like Brucy could carry it. It's not Stark Tech, at least, I don't think that it is.
Edit: He also has gone with only certain parts of it, like just the belt. Not sure what having more or less restricts him to.
Yeah, but in that case, doesn't that kind of make The Hulk a redundant character?
I mean, we don't think of Bruce Banner as being the hero, we think of The Hulk as being the hero, even though he is probably more borderline psychotic than anything else.
Stopping Bruce from becoming The Hulk is like taking away the Dr.Jekyll from Mr.Hyde. You have taken away that extra factor that makes the character interesting, and heroic and are left with an otherwise, very intelligent, yet very dull character.
