Whispers in the Dark – Version 1.0 Released

Official Release – End of Early Access

Whispers in the Dark has reached its first stable version.
This update marks the end of Early Access and the beginning of a new phase in your investigations.

New content, improved systems, and deeper challenges await.

New threats, new missions

• 50 new mission scenarios
Fifty new variations have been added to increase mission diversity and replayability.
Each investigation now offers new risks and outcomes.

Gear quality now matters

• Equipment system: V1, Pro, Legendary
All gear now comes in three versions:
– V1: standard
– V2: Pro — improved durability and reliability
– V3: Legendary — rare, powerful, and resistant to interference or destruction

Examples of Legendary items:
– Spectra-X Polaroid: captures phenomena in unstable environments
– Type-7 Flash: weakens even highly resistant entities
– Grimoire of Rosenheim: provides instant responses from powerful entities
– Holy Water from Mount Athos: harms ancient, deeply rooted presences
– Maras Salt: effective against persistent or demonic entities

Disruption and destruction

• Entities can damage or destroy your tools
Stronger entities may now interfere with or completely destroy low-quality equipment.
Only Legendary items are fully resistant to these effects.

Hidden objectives in the field

• Rare item recovery missions
Certain locations now trigger new hidden objectives during regular missions.
These events are not visible in the mission menu — you'll need to find them during exploration.

Additional improvements in 1.0

• New tutorial mission to learn the basics
• Battery level indicators for all rechargeable equipment
• Limited-use and time-based items (candles, powder, electronics...)
• Improved co-op: voice handling, shared inventory visuals, and bug fixes

What's next?

Development will continue beyond version 1.0.
More content is already planned: new entities, systems, balancing passes, and dynamic events.

🔦 Update – Tutorial mission, usage-limited items, and co-op fixes

Dear occult hunters,

A new update is now live for Whispers in the Dark!
This version introduces helpful features for new players, improvements to item behavior, and important fixes for co-op sessions.

🆕 New Features

🎓 Tutorial Mission

A guided tutorial mission has been added!
It helps new players get familiar with the core mechanics of the game in a simple and safe environment.

🧭 In-Game Help

- Mission objectives are now clearly listed in the mission dashboard.

- A dedicated Codex page explains communication with entities.

- The number of remaining discoverable skills is now visible.

🕯️ Items with Limited Duration or Uses

Certain tools now have a limited number of uses or active time:
- Candles, electronics, salt, talc, etc. can now burn out, lose charge, or be consumed.
- Once depleted, they are automatically removed from your inventory.

🔋 Battery Indicators

Devices powered by batteries now display a charge level, letting you anticipate when to replace or recharge.

🛠️ Fixes and Improvements

- Fixed voice chat issues in co-op
- Improved display of teammates’ items
- Various performance improvements and bug fixes

🛠️ Pro and Legendary Equipment

Rare, powerful, and expensive – these items will give you an edge… if you survive long enough to use them.

👻 Equipment Interference & Destruction

The most powerful entities will be able to damage or destroy your gear if it's not of sufficient quality.
Only legendary items will be immune to destruction.

🧭 New Mission Type: Rare Item Recovery

Special items will be hidden in the environment during active missions.
These secret objectives must be discovered and unlocked by exploring.

New identification system and more

CHANGES

- Brightness option
- Skills : system of primary and secundary skills
- Identification system changed. Automatic or non auto option proposed.
- Inventory system : equipments stay now in the environment and can't be refuelled into inventory.
- Entities sometimes close doors when they cast a spell, depending of their anger.
- power balance of equipments and entities

FIXES

- Old farm : collision walls fixed
- Exposition of hearts : all hearts are available
- Consumables equipments : candles, holy water, salt, talc, incense
- Identification fix : Crucifix, red candle and repelling equipment
- UI Character menu : skills text alignment

How do the devs feel about input/community feedback?

I just want to check before offering too much in the way of suggestions and critique (positive and constructive, I assure you), since the forums are very inactive. I really like the game, even with its flaws, and I'd like to have a bit of a discussion about the ideas and direction if that's agreeable. Not to try and shove my opinions around, of course, just to provide feedback and a player perspective, cause this has potential but it's a little rough in some areas and tricky to wrap your head around some e...

How to play

Needs a tutorial on how to play or some type of instructions because I keep getting completely lost on what I have to do. At best I just roam around the house with some basic tools and when I find the room and the tools is on it will record if it works or not and that's about it. Afterwards sanity goes down and I immediately die...

Head in floor bug

This happens very frequently for me. Whenever i go into the character menu to level up some stats or look at assignments my characters head vanishes into the ground. (i think this happens in general when pressing escape sometimes) On my screen i'll be headless while on other people's screens i'm just walking around normally. Rarely does it fix itself without quitting out of the game completely. Also a back to main menu is missing....
