Why is the Online Multiplayer still near unplayable?

We've had tons of game freezes recently. Before that, whenever one of us would use 'Left Ctrl' to demolish or repair it would reset the day. I know the game is old, but I used to play it locally and it was a great great game. I read that there had been some fixes 2 Years ago, but i'd appreciate if they did some more fixes. Also got the "Online Soup Team Please Wait" message a lot lately.
