How do you play Afraid of Monsters?
Hi all. My neighbor and I are interested in playing through afraid of monsters but we’re both confused as to how this map pack is meant to be played. I guess the confusion stems from there being a classic and directors cut mode, and the clue for the password to start classic mode (according to Sven coop db) comes from the directors cut side. It strikes me that classic mode shouldn’t depend on directors cut mode to start. So....the question is, how are these maps meant to be played?

There might be a server that hosts the AOM Lobby. Keep looking,

You can play it on Moutain Man's AOM 24/7 servers

I guess I should have clarified. My neighbor has a dedicated server running with all the AOM maps installed. We just got into the lobby map and honesty weren’t sure how it’s intended to be experienced the first time. Go right into directors cut? Classic mode?

you do not need to play classic first, you won't be missing out on anything important. afraid of monsters was originally a hl1 mod, it was first released as just "afraid of monsters" (this is classic mode) before being updated and re-released as directors cut. classic mode is "simpler" than directors cut, mostly in map design but overall classic and directors cut are similar

directors cut lets you pick from 3 endings, canonically the order is from 1 to 3, but you can pick any. there's more to it but i'm not spoiling anything more than i already am. you don't need to do anything to play directors cut in the lobby, just follow a corridor and pick an ending

classic has one ending, and you need that code to play it. "the 5 who are lost" refer to some notes with a number and letter on them, they are hidden around the lobby map. just for example, one is hidden under a car

that's about it really, i'm personally not going to share any tips for once you get in because it's a survival horror mod and it would ruin the point of it, i would seriously recommend not skipping the training map. have fun
