My question is, is it possible to disable this tomfoolery?
This works really well in BM:STS for example, so that players are coloured in uniform according to the team they are on. This is also used in They Hunger maps so players appearance matches up with the theme of the map series.
but i recently joined a coop-HL1-server and one of the players looked like Boba Fett
Personally I do like this since it gives some harmony to the game setting and the people in it, although admittedly it can get annoying to have to switch your model every now and then to avoid getting model-shuffled.
I don't know if it's possible to disable this forced-model thing, but I did note an example of its usage, this is in the CFG file for They Hunger (-They_Hunger_Ep1.cfg) :
Whether or not this can be altered on your local server is something I can't answer, sorry.
