Creating a game - "server not responding" when trying to join

Hello! I would like to create a game for my friends to join - no dedicated server intended.
Svencoop has exceptions in my firewall and I can give out my IP via steam invitations to friends - but they will always tell me they cannot join my game because my server does not respond.

I unchecked the LAN game box before I started the game and set the Steam region to WORLDWIDE. It seems I'm still getting my local IP when using the "invite this friend to your game" button, so I tried using my external ip and having my friends manually put in that ip. No change though, they can't join my game.

Do I need to port forward or is there another way round this issue? I know svencoop is really old, but I kinda expected this not to be a problem anymore when playing via steam :c

Yes, you need to open port 27015.
