gear mods...
Just to see if I'm understanding this correctly...

So I have to get really good scores in the challenges in order to be able to get the great gear mods, and if for whatever reason, like if I just suck at a certain thing or even several things, then I just don't get to play with the better toys?

If so, that seems just a bit too much like real life for a video game. :spazdunno:

Well yeah, I'm aware of that, but I'm not into cheats or stuff like that, at least not on a first playthrough.

I do appreciate it, though my real point in making this thread was to highlight the absurdity of this system...

I mean, I would love to have a Ferrari in real life, but it seems I'm not very good at becoming a millionaire. I'd like to avoid having my video games mocking me the same way as my life does at times.

The system is fine...? The only challenges that are at all annoying are the stupid destruction ones but you don't really get anything essential from them so it's whatever. The gear system adds a little bit of depth to a very shallow game.

I don't believe the system is fine. For example, the vehicles can be rather difficult to control, between the annoying and often unresponsive steering, not to mention the terrible FOV... so I should have to get really good at something that's annoying the hell out of me just to earn a gear mod?

I'm really loving this game overall, and it's not like I'm trolling here or dissing it, but this is the first game I've played that I can remember where I just didn't want to go through some of the stuff I have to in order to get an upgrade that I want.

Some people like it some people don't however without it there would be even less to do in the game. The game is fun don't get me wrong just not a ton to do outside of liberate a town/base do a story mission then liberate more stuff. The challenges at least break things up a bit.

As to vehicals... yeah they are pretty bad, but bikes are the only thing that you literally can't control at all, everything else just takes a bit of practice to get it down but it's still a mess.

I find most of the challenges to be fun, and I've been doing them as they come along, and not scoring badly, just not doing the best.
What prompted this one though was failing on my third attempt to 'win' a land race in a car, because the damn camera and the steering kept ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me up at the end.

I can appreciate what they wanted to do, but I just don't think they thought some of it through well enough...

I've tried every type, and I find all of them extremely boring except for the wingsuit challenges. Flight challenges aren't bad either.

The car driving, boat racing and destruction challenges, though...

The trick with destruction challenges is to find an alternate solution. Like use one of the base helicopters instead of x weapon or drag an AA gun into a prime location and blow everything away.

I hadn't even thought of doing that, so thanks for the tip! :steamhappy:

Even if you only average 2 or 3 gears, you'll end up getting most of the upgrades on whatever track. I especially suck at the plane stuff, but it matters less since I wouldn't be making much use of plane upgrades anyway.
Noquiem Dec 9, 2015 @ 4:21am
Scrapyard challenges are easy and can be found by liberating bases/outposts close to the hexagons on the map. Those upgrades mean yo can have 6 tethers that can pull all but the largest towers down, adding a significant boost to destruction challenges as you can derp about setting up the optimal cables before starting the clock. Combined with earlier mentioned methods its alot easier than using some of the weapons provided(like shotgun <.<)

It would have make much more sense if the game let you unlock stuffs with your Chaos Scores.

I agree with this.
I enjoy the challenges for the most part, and would try them anyway, but I don't like being forced to do them. Gear mods should come from chaos scores, as you say, or maybe unlocked from story missions or side missions. The way they did it is almost as if they just wanted to force us to do the challenges, but doing those should just be optional, towards getting 100%, IMO.

And thanks to Joshua and Noquiem for the suggestions. :steamhappy:

I never said they're difficult, I said they're anti-fun.

My bad, I read your post with a headache so comprehension was kinda crap on my part. Yeah the destruction challenges aren't necessarily that fun. I like the car challenges though and the bomb ones.
