No triple Buffering with V-sync?
It looks like if you get 60fps or below, the game just goes immediately to 30 fps. I'm not able to force Tripple buffering via Radeon Pro either.

And yes, people use v-sync. Screen tearing is an eyesore, and it still happens below the refresh rate.

Yeah I noticed turning off v-sync immediately stopped all those frame drops I was getting when explosions happened.

Yeap, it's old-school V-sync. You either get your full refresh rate, or half of it. No in-betweens.

The sudden drop in framerate is incredibly jarring. Without vsync screen tearing isn't as bad for me with this game as it usually is with others, but it's still present and a sore for the eyes.

The last game I played that was like this was Far Cry 3- that one is super broken. Luckily I could force TB+Vsync on that one.

If only GSync and Freesync monitors were cheaper. :(

Forcing vsync via Nvidia control panel doesn't really help, sadly, as it works the same as the built-in one.

Guys, this seems to have fixed the issue for me...

Set launch options within Steam (for JC3) to "/borderless /windowed"
Then turn the ingame vsync OFF and the ingame fullscreen OFF.

I then have no tearing, and the FPS doesn't dip (running Win10). It still appears to be fullscreen due to the borderless window.

Only problem is that the FPS for me anyway goes up to about 400 FPS when in the menu, which makes my GPU scream with awful coil whine. Maybe I should use a frame limiter. Apart from that, it solved the issue.

if you have nvidia use adaptive vsync from nvidia control panel, turn in game vsync off. If you have AMD, there is an equivalent setting but you need some software for radeon (radeon pro maybe?) to do the same setting. Problem solved.

Radeon Pro works, but the framerate still gets cut in half sub 60fps

adaptive vsync turns vsync off when it falls below 60fps. If it's cutting down to 30 when below 60, you don't have it enabled.

Yeah, that's my solution for now. Not preffered since screen tearing happens whenever the game drops below 60 fps.

It is triple buffering mates. Three times buffer!!!!! Imangine the whole world of Just Cause 3 has to be buffered before it appears on the screen. Three times buffer of 1920x1080 res. High textures and all other settings high. Budget card cant handle that level of stress. It will stutter! get amd R9 390 8gb or gtx 970 4gb. More Vram is needed for optimal textures. More gpu power is needed for triple buffering. Turn off v sync and set texture setting to medium.....

Erm the point is, the in game vsync isnt triple buffered.

Borderless windowed launch command however alongside in game vsync gives the best experience; as it will cap the framerate and Windows vsync used in borderless mode will be triple buffered and avoid the 30/60 fluctuations by overriding the ingame double buffered solution.

So....use the launch command, dont get the problem. Budget cards will struggle regardless as they lack the power to display a fluid framerate but the better vsync option above will still make it seem smoother as it will sync the frames they can achieve to the refresh rate of the monitor.

They should add a better vsync solution in a patch, but ill bet that never happens. If you read this devs....double buffered vsync in 2015/2016 is not really good enough. This sort of thing makes a massive difference to gameplay smoothness. Getting it wrong is a bad move.

Ill also add that afaik Just cause 2 used double buffering too.
