If you have an XBox controller of any sort - Calibrate the triggers! Fixes a lot of stuff.
Edit: If you can take off easily in a plane, you probably don't have this problem. If you can't take off in a plane you've got this problem for sure. In between, who knows. But wouldn't it suck to find out you've only been going 90% of top speed in races?

If you're using an XBox/Elite Controller and you don't calibrate your triggers, you'll have the following issues:

* Planes can't take off, they never go fast enough.
* Copters don't rise and descend very fast.
* Tanks have trouble going up hills.
* You have trouble getting 5 gears in car or boat races.
* Heavy weapons don't fire immediately.

This is all because when you have your LT and RT fully depressed, they're only reading 66%! Use the XBox Accessories App, or the Control Panel Joystick or USB Game Controllers options (depending on your OS version) to either set up dead zones on the triggers or calibrate your 'z-axis' so you can actually hit 100% throttle. It makes an amazing difference.

I calibrated mine when I got it, but somewhere along the line Windows decided to forget that, and I see other people here having the problem that they can't take off in planes. Otherwise you might not notice. Even if yours isn't as bad as mine was, you may not be going as fast as you could be.

Not Xbox controller of any sort, looks like the App is only for Xbox One controllers so those with Xbox 360 controllers can't use it.

Go to control panel then 'joysticks' or 'usb game controllers' and calibrate it, specifically the Z-axis. I did that for my X360 controller. They all have the issue because of the large trigger range.

I haven't noticed a problem with my 360 controller at all, haven't had to calibrate

That's good then, it's just to make sure. I don't know what causes Windows to forget its calibration settings.

But if you can take off in a plane you're probably okay.
