Key bindings
I want to buy this game but first I want to know if you can change key bindings, mouse buttons included.

Are they changeable?

yep, fully rebindable
Mens Rea Dec 1, 2015 @ 3:17am
If you rebind the "F" key to fire the grapple, pressing it will still make Rico thow the grenades and you can't do ♥♥♥♥ about it. It made me blow up Marco in the first mission where you need to get into the jeep with him.

Thanks 4 the info guys.

Half ass rebindable, as so many games these days. You can rebind them in the menus, but some things remain hard coded. Like 'F' will always try to detonate explosives. So the ESDF movement layout can't be used. I wonder if companies are just placing in the rebind menus to act like they have rebinds, but don't care at all about people who actually want to rebind them...

Not really working... You'll get promt to press "E" even if you have binded the "F" as interact.
Also what other 2 guys said...

Let's hope they fix it in the next patch.

I figured out how to edit the binds so F no longer detonates explosives:

1. Go to C:\Users\*YOUR USER NAME*\Documents\Square Enix\Just Cause 3\Saves
2. Open the folder with a long string of numbers (mine is 76561197963567447)
3. Open 'kepmap.txt' in notepad or your favorite editor
4. Search for DETONATE_EXPLOSIVE (make sure it's not DETONATE_EXPLOSIVE_TAP)
5. Below DETONATE_EXPLOSIVE should be "key": "PC_F"
6. Change "PC_F" to whatever key you want (recommend to be same as your Throw Grenade key)
7. Save and close the file
8. Play the game!

NO YOU CANNOT ADJUST MOST KEY BINDINGS REGARDING THE MOUSE

You can rebind things like Q for detonation, but you cannot change mouse bindings for vehicles.

The game was built for consoles and it shows! I wanted my helicopter and jet controls to be like Battlefield 4 so I edited the .txt. It doesn't work. The game uses mouse controls for aiming the helicopter gun reticle up and down and the camera while in jets.

You cannot overwrite these with the .txt file! When I did, the default camera controls functioned and the new binding did not. I wanted jets to roll and pitch up/down with mouse, but neither control worked. I copied and pasted the exact PC keybind into the proper place and it didn't work.

I know I did it correctly, because all my other bindings worked. Also, the complete lack of mouse rebinding options in the game indicate there was no intent for you to be able to do what I tried to do viat he .txt file. We likely need a MOD to allow this.

Don't know what version you tried this with, but this doesn't work.

My keybinds in the text file are the same as what they are in the in game menu but whenever I press F it keeps trying to detonate all explosives.

Slight necrothanks for this post :) it's 2021 and I finally got round to trying this, having F make things explode was most annoying. Editing the keymap.txt did the trick nicely.

And another "necrothanks". This is useful - activating the Beacon didn't work without this user-supplied workaround.

No kudos to the developers. But kudos to Kyodan for the fix.
