What Do You Think Of The Flying Controls/Mechanics?
I REALLY love flying and anything to do with planes and helicopters. I find myself to be an ace at all games that have flying mechanics.

I'd say that I flew more in Just Cause 2 than drove, walked, and parachuted.
The flight mechanics in JC2 were actually pretty great and felt realistic in a sense.

So far in Just Cause 3, they are baaaaaaaad. As in too arcady. A helicopter begins to fly up instantly, then 1 button is to go forward and blah it's a huge mess and is too sensitive.

I literally just got a helicopter and crashed 10 seconds after lift off lol. I guess I can't take flying in this game too seriously.

What are your thoughts on the flight mechanics?

You can talk about vehicles and boats too. I find vehicles to be a bit too sensitive with steering.

Edit:

Just got myself a military jet plane.

So far this one is actually pretty decent. But the lack of yaw movement is annoying.

It'd be cool if there were different camera options though. The camera always centers on the plane, and rolls with it. This is a cool and cinematic view, but it'd be cool if there was an option where the camera didn't roll with the plane.

It seems like the devs really wanted to make this game cinematic. It's cool, but not always what everyone wants!

Edit2: nvm found out that planes have yaw mechanics.

So they broke helicopters, but planes are good!

Flying/Driving is way too touchy. I'm a keyboard/mouse player and driving is a nightmare.

I'm playing on a gamepad and it's a nightmare too :P .

The longer I push the analog to the left or right, the faster it turns and even when I let go it keeps turning for a little bit longer if I held it for too long.

Feels like I'm playing a hyper realistic space sim like space engine.

Helicopters seem really twitchy and arcadey, but the wingsuit is awesome :P

I don't get why Rico has to reel in himself completly while flying, that always makes him face plant the ground, if he only reeled in half way, or if the "V" button let rico "release" the grapple while reeling in, he wouldn't face plant into the ground as much and flying would be much easier. currently in the ranking it shows me at the top, so if I am the best at this I'm sure something is wrong.

I actually didn't notice a difference between the two games. I've been playing JC2 the last few days in anticipation of the new release, and had no trouble switching at all.

What do you mean?

I'm on a gamepad and I can reel in and then cancel the reel with B. Same button as parachute.

I haven't tried a jet but I like the helicopters and how you can shoot under you unlike in gta where you had to tilt. It's kind of sensitive on keyboard and mouse but I'm getting better. The wingsuit is just amazing

LOL.

So I'm trying to get used to flying a helicopter.

I take off, press the A button and I end up getting off of the heli. I'm less than 20 feet from the ground so the heli is ontop of me. As soon I get out from being under it, it blows up and kills me :P

I'm using an Xbox controller and yaw is X & B. Tooltip showed us the first time I got into a plane.

Yeah I miss alot of tooltips lol.

Sucks how it's X and B. It's pretty unccomfortable and makes me have to remove my hand from the right thumb stick in which I use to control my view.

I despise realistic flying controls, I think I liked how Halo PC did flying (just point with the camera) and I liked how JC2 did heli flying...
Haven't tried JC3's flying, is it better or worse?

Just Cause 3 Heli Flying With Gamepad:

Left and Right bottom triggers are for controlling altitude.

Left Thumbstick forward and back is for forward and back movement. On some games you may have to control your altitude while moving, but not in this one.

Left thumbstick left and right is for banking/moving left and right.

As soon as you let go of the left thumbstick, your heli very quickly stops any form of motion.

Right thumbstick is for yawing/turning your heli into a UFO by constantly spinning 360 degrees very fast.

The controls are very arcady and simplistic. So simplistic and different from many of the games that have flight, that they become hard to use and control at first.
I literally kept crashing everytime I tried flying a heli. Then I realised that I had to disregard any of my flight knowledge from other games (even Just Cause 2) and had to accept that this game has super arcady flying.

Though many other helis could be different, the first 2 types of helis I flew felt like I was flying a kite with a rotor. They were so sensitive, and so fast that I didn't know how to control myself.

Watch this video I uploaded.

I lost control at 0:47 hue

Finally, a post about how insanely jerky the flight mechanics are. I am someone who prefers more realistic controls from time to time but arcadey has a home in my heart. That being said, the air vehicles do not feel like they are in AIR in this game. Its like they are in some sort of thick inertia-dampening fluid. Nothing seems smooth (especially with the helicopters).
My proposal is to reduce the initial sensitivity for all controls regarding aircraft: acceleration, roll, yaw, aim, pitch, etc. They accelerate way too quickly (planes take off in 20ft, helis shoot up into the air). Turning and yaw are so sudden that it is visibly jerking the craft. Maybe even have the helicoters continue cruising in the direction they were heading instead of slowing for no reason. For jets, the Fighter-Bomber has very smooth (because its slow) handling. The devs should have had the controls for this plane in mind when tuning the helicopters.

--Note: I don't think the controls need to be sluggish, but if the controls EASED the planes/helicopters into maneuvers the pilot wanted, we'd all be a lot happier. Also, slow them down please. There's no point to runways at this point. :steamhappy:

I wish I could use mouse to manoeuvre the jets/ heli
