How to play JC3 on 8Gb RAM
YOU CAN run Just Cause 3 on an 8Gb system.... you just have to plan for it.

I run JC3 at 1920x1080 on lowest settings (except AF at x16) and it only ever uses around 3.5Gb-5.5Gb of RAM (not counting any potential memory leaks... which I've never had).

WHY 8GB MAY NOT WORK
If windows is using 4Gb and you try to run JC3 on a 8Gb system then the pagefile will have to be used... and if your pagefile is on an old slow mechanical HDD then you'll suffer problems such as stuttering and pauses (even if it's on an SSD you could suffer problems as info is shifted from memory location to memory location). Windows can easily eat up more than 4Gb when running multiple programs (Steam itself is a memory hog) and browsers are especially bad at eating huge amounts of RAM.

WHAT TO DO!
If you are trying to run Just Cause 3 on an 8Gb system you MUST ensure you run the game from a clean boot e.g. boot up windows with as few background programs running as possible: no media players, no browsers, no background monitoring software, no recording software, NOTHING EXCEPT WINDOWS and an antivirus/firewall program. DO NOT open any programs or explorer windows as windows will use RAM to store pre-fetch data. This will put your system in the best position to play Just Cause 3 as there will be more RAM available.

This is not a full proof method but it should help any noobs on 8Gb systems get the game up and running. I hope it helps somebody :)

Something; somewhere, is very wrong with the information about the ram requirements and people saying it has a memory leak. I have 8gb of ram, and Windows 10. I use all settings max except I use FXAA; and turn off global illumination (or similar named option.) I use an r9 290; and a 2500k @4.6gz. This is with 8gb of Kingston Hyper X Ram. I use the latest release version of AMD crimson; 15.12 I believe it is; and my ram usage without fail will go up to 6gb (just over) and wont climb any higher.

On AMD cards, you get constant shadow/object flickering if you use global illumination (not sure if this applied to Nvidia ones too) but there is certainly no memory leak. With the above settings I get 50-60 fps everywhere. With global illumination off I get solid 60. Explosions no longer send fps down much and aside from the pretty horrendous driving physics the game performs great. Also the highest temp I have seen my card get to on this is 79 degres. CPU stays pretty cool (liquid cooled).

For people that cant run this with 8gb, I would suggest some pc maintenance is in order. Stop all the useless programs from starting with Windows and running in the background and get to the bare minimum needed to game. As when you need those other progs, you can open them, simple as that. If this is an issue solely with Nvidia and their drivers, this is another case entirely, but to test this i have also played this game with an 870m equipped Clevo notebook and get similar results (obviously lower framerate, but no massive stuttering and more than playable.)

Not sure if this is going to help anyone or probably will be ignored, but just my experience. There are things that need to be done better in the game (loading time, online only crap, which sometimes doesnt even seem to register...leaderboards etc disappear even when connected) and possibly some more optimisation; including global illumination.

I also run the game in borderless fullscreen (add to startup options; not sure if this is actually working to be honest) and I play with vsync on through the game. Pretty happy with the performance personally.

People also need to understand a memory leak will effect the game over time if there is one, and simple restarting the game will start the process off again. In my experience at least (and I dont doubt some may be different) 8gb is indeed enough for this game and no problems for me on that front.

I would like someone with a memory leak to use afterburner and record a video of the memory slowly increasing to the point that performance drops. Make sure to add your specs with this. Im interested to actually see this happening so people can confirm it is indeed a problem. This sort of thing would have been the first thing to be sorted out by developers if it was an obvious issue.

One more thing, those users that have a "memory leak" And use Nvidia. Uninstall Geforce experience. Then try again. This program is horrendous for hogging system resources and doing nothing useful (aside from the shadowplay function) ---you bought a pc, learn how to configure games yourself! Just an idea for a potential fix for some of you. If it doesnt help, its easy enough to install again via a new Geforce driver (if you desperately need it---I highly recommend not using it.)

Vram is more the issue than anything else, and simply lowering settings does very little to help apart from playing the game in lower resolutions which is pretty sad. If you don't have 3GB+ of Vram you are going to have issues.

I would dispute that assessment as I'm running on a 3 year old 660ti with 2Gb VRAM here. I'm not saying there aren't further issues for people, just that there doesn't seem to be a one size fits all answer.

This topic was purely to help people play JC3, who don't really know how to optimise a PC for gaming and who are running into problems with only 8Gb RAM.

Lol.
Try 2 play the game 4 about 2 or more hours and u will see that it eats more and more RAM.
OFc it will run longer without issues if u play on lowest settings.

I've had long 4hr+ sessions and during that time RAM usage did not go above 5.5Gb

Yeah I haven't seen any memory leaks on this game either, even after a 6+ hour session last week. The highest it ever got was between 6-7gb ram

The game runs ultra smooth on both my new and my old setup (new setup has a GTX 980 ti, the old setup has a GTX Titan, the old 6gb version)

Are you guys running setups with very low Vram? (I have seen the game use around 4gb of vram on max setting, so if you're on a gtx 970 that might explain it. Turn some of the graphics settings down a bit)

This seemed to be mostly the case for me. I went from 2gb 760gtx, to 970gtx. It was maxing the vram completely even on lowest settings. Biggest problems were the micro freezes and lags in the map/gear etc menus and in the completion screens. Also some stutters here and there in gameplay.

All issues seemed to be pretty much gone with the 970.

This guide doesn't seem to work with my setup. It runs better for about 5 minutes, but as soon as I go more than 20 feet in any direction, it immediately devolves into a freeze/stutter-fest again.

I run it with 8GB on ultra just fine. The real issue is VRAM: you need at least 4 GB
Wheeshnaw you don't need at least 4GB Vram... It's depends on which settings you applied.. Moron

My PC only 2 month old with 16GB ram I7 6700k 4.0ghz oc to 4.5ghz, KFA2 EX OC 1080gtx windows 10. I still get bad performance and hangs and got to quit. It just a rubbish port. I thought i fixed it a couple of times but it just goes back to stuttering and hangs. So as for Vram i have 8GB so should be pleanty to max this game out. Even with settings lowered i still get hangs. I have even tried it in 900p and still hangs. I use 1080p monitor with 144hz and even tried it in 60hz and guess what still hangs.

I have i5 6600k stock, MSI R9 390 8G, and 8 GB of DDR4 Kingston HyperX Fury RAM, it has terrible, and I mean terrible frame rate drops due to Just Cause 3 using just over 8GB RAM, NOT VRAM! It uses around 8.5GB RAM average in its best during a large base takedown or fast flying through tree's etc. I am going to try get 16 GB RAM and see if it still has dips which it shoudlnt, add me if you want to know if it works, I probably will forget to reply to this thread
