How do the "gear mods" work?

So i have been wondering on how do the gears really work. I am confused because of one thing, if you get lets say 35 gears and you unlock one of the mods do you end up with 0 or is it like the more gears you have the more mods it unlock buuuuut you dont have to spend them? It might be a stupid question, but i really need an answer. The thing is that my pc can run JC3 on lowest graphics and lower resolution at around 30fps, but when i try to do the race it goes to 20 and i just cant race with 20 fps and be expected to get 5 gears every time. So if i would know the answer i might try to do it or maube i will have to cheat ;(. Thanks for any response :)

You don't spend them. So for wingsuit mods, the more you earn the more mods you can toggle. Personally I find the challenges too strict for 5 gears. You don't need 5 gears on everything to unlock all mods but you won't have the best upgrades until close to the end of the game if you earn just some gears in each challenge. And you will need to play the minigames as soon as they unlock if you want to enjoy the mods. Personally, I would cheat if I had it on PC.

If you have 35 gears and unlock something, you still have 35 gears. They are not a currency system.

Ohhhhh, alright, Thanks! So if i understand right then if i beat lets say flying race than those gears will go in that section of the gear mods, then if i beat water race they go to ship gears mods, etc.?

Thats right. Challenges give gears towards a specific set of mods. Air races are gears for air vehicles, water races are for ship vehicle mods and so on. You have the right idea.
