If you view the contents of that file in Notepad++ you can probably figure out what you need to change manually to get it the way you like. It's hugely annoying to me they have bindings set in there many of which don't work at all (like quick save/quick load), and some which do work but are not accessible in the game options menu. For example I bind "F" to shoot the grapple hook, but there is a "hard-wired" setting in keymap.txt that binds the "hold-F" button to detonate explosives. Very aggravating ... interferes with dual-tethering. In that case I search for "PC_F" in the file, find the line "action": "DETONATE_EXPLOSIVE" and below, where it says "key": "PC_F" I change it to "key": "PC_U" (I don't use "U" for anything).
I mean, so many keys that we PC people have at our disposal. It can become too confusing for us, and we should be more like our console brethren and embrace the lack of options.
Let me guess... they tested this on just one PC that used the default keys...
My apologies Warc1, I misspelled -- it is indeed "kepmap.txt". Not sure why editing this file to remap the F key works for me but not for others, but then I have given up on trying to figure out a LOT of the bugs in this game. The key bindings are really bonkers, the way they tie certain actions together, and you can't separate them. For example, accelerate and nitrous on helicopters and planes.
More weirdness: When using the Fire Leech (which is a really cool rocket launcher... when it works), sometimes it refuses to "lock" the target at all (where you hold the fire button until you get spinny red icon box). Sometimes it will lock on the first target, and not lock on subsequent targets. Sometimes it will work fine, hold the fire button and swing over multiple targets and it locks on them all. WHY??
Also, today I was piloting the rebel corvette, and the gun worked fine the first several shots, then it just totally stopped working. Sometime later I tried it again and it worked, but only while I held down the fire button for several seconds. Then it stopped working again. It may be my imagination, but it seemed to start messing up once I elevated the gun site up above a certain point, and only started working again after pointing it as low as it would go. Couldn't experiment more with that, however, because by that point they were bombing the crap out of me from every angle and I died in a blaze of glory >:)
