This game doesn't have cloud save!
I lost a 57 hour save file because I assumed a MODERN GAME WOULD HAVE CLOUD SAVE epecially considering JUST CAUSE 2 HAD IT...

Yes I understand that this is my fault for not backing up etc etc. But when your Windows OS corrupts itself due to a failed update and you have to reinstall, it's not fun. Having to start all over again after all that progress has ruined all possible fun I can have in this game, and now I might as well look up the ending and wait for Just Cause 4 instead. What a joke for a modern game to not have cloud save...

So as a PSA: always back up your save games, use Gamesave Manager for example, I will be backing up my saves every week to avoid this in future as I had to learn the hard way.

It's a shame that I won't be playing this great game because of it anymore but what can you do.

It sounds like your save file should still be there. It will be in Documents / Square Enix / Just Cause 3 / Saves or OneDrive / Square Enix / Just Cause 3 / Saves as a folder titled a bunch of random numbers. Check both locations if they exist and save a copy of all the random numbered folders you find somewhere. If you found any, play the gane until it saves (and creates a new one) and then copy and replace the contents of the old folder into the new one

It's not much of your fault. You've been expecting logical outcome. Modern game + Steam + it's not an indie crap. Game SHOULD HAVE that cloud. Idk why not. This is freaking stupid. And what is even more stupid is that devs are not giving any info about this kind of exeption. Or at least they are giving it in a way that noone can see it.

Unfortunately my OneDrive was not linked when my OS got corrupted so it was local only and was lost :/

Exactly this! It's such a shame really.

both of those folders would be local. Your entire hard drive plus literally everything on it was lost? Because of an operating system issue?

Yeah, I couldn't boot at all, I formatted the drive and reinstalled from a USB.

you seem you had an operating system corruption which doesn't always lead to the corruption of the whole hard drive, what you could do is hook you hard drive by usb to another computer and then you can find and access all the files, and backup them

I sure hope they got this resolved in the three years since they posted that :)

Yeah since posting that I started again, got almost 100% (again) and did most of the DLC, backed up my save to Dropbox and haven't touched the game for like over 2 years. Bit random to get comments on this again but I guess it's because it doesn't have an answer yet, I don't really see the point of setting one now though.

I do still think it's stupid that a modern AAA doesn't have Cloud Save, Dark Souls III doesn't either and that drives me crazy.

I replied cuz I bought JC3 in the last sale, and in case someone encounters your issue

The weirdest thing is that there's a SavesDir in the install tree, and a "steam_autocloud.vdf" in there, which, according to *Steamwork Documentation* would do cloud saves *IF* they had used this directory "SavesDir". It does sound like a directory for game saves, doesn't it?

Just to add not everyone likes cloud saves, its not really to do with being modern as such, there is no rule to say a game has to have it.

For instance personally depending on the game, I turn cloud saving off as I like to have different characters on different computers etc.

I get that but it's better to have cloud save with the option to disable it for those who want to rather than have no cloud save at all. WIth the Steam Deck coming I think it should be a requirement to have Steam Cloud saving. It's only a good thing considering you can just turn it off if you really don't want it.

Choice is good.

At this point it's hard to call JC3 a modern game so it does't bother me anymore, plus this whole debacle got me into the habit of automatically backing up all my saves to my own cloud solution so all in all it doesn't really matter to me anymore.

No one cares what you "want" people expect modern solutions in modern games, don't want a cloud save? Expect the ability to disable it, or play offline. Whatever the case. Cloud saves should never be a question, even the shoddy low rent 2$ games have it, and square couldn't be bothered to include it? It is in jc2 wtg not 3?
Guys. I am writing from 2025. There is still no cloud save in the game...
